LifeStyle Feature | Tanesha of Girl With Curves

November 5, 2014 by Whitney 5 Comments

I’m so honored to introduce today’s LifeStyle feature, Tanesha of Girl with Curves. Tanesha has been inspiring me with her classic and effortless style since I began my blogging career.  Her recent entrepreneur endeavors, Girl Wth Curves clothing, has also been a source of inspiration. She’s a pioneer in the plus size blogging community and is as sweet as they come. Enjoy her interview and be sure to stop by her blog and shop!

Girl With Curves - Style Feature

1. Where are you from and where do you currently reside?

Born, raised and currently reside in the SF Bay Area.

2. What inspired you to start the Girl With Curves clothing line?

From a really young age, my dream was to be a designer. Growing up a girl who was not only always the biggest but also the tallest, I dreamed of making clothes that would fit girls and women who’s bodies were like mine, versus the models and celebs I saw in magazines. It was frustrating not being able to wear the amazing clothes I wanted to wear because they weren’t made in my size or they weren’t long enough, so I became fascinated with the thought of making anything my heart desired.

After starting the blog in Feb. 2011, as a creative outlet outside my former career in technology, I saw a potential to make the Girl With Curves brand into something more, and made it my goal to one day launch a collection.

Girl With Curves - Style

 3. Who is the ideal GWC customer?

The unapologetic size 12 – 24 curvy girl seeking classic, sophisticated style with a fashion-forward edge.

4. What’s your favorite piece form the GWC Fall Collection and why?

The Frill Hem Blazer in Ivory!  It goes with everything from jeans to a pencil skirt, and it’s appropriate for the office as well as casual settings.  I’m all about functionality and versatility for my own wardrobe, so I try my best to carry that same fashion philosophy into the clothing line.

Entrepreneur, blogger and designer @TaneshaAwasthi shares useful tips on style, life and more!

5. Looking ahead, where would you like to see the GWC clothing line in 5 years?

My goal is for GWC to be available in boutiques in every major fashion city in the world, in addition to becoming a major online retailer.

6. As a wife, mommy, and an entrepreneur, how do you find balance in your everyday life?

I’m the oldest of 6, so I think growing up in a large family where everyone was always involved in sports and other activities in addition to school taught me how to manage many things at once.  My mom is a wizard at managing many things at once – she runs a Daycare, is the President of a National Softball League and has an eBay store. So I think I get my multi-tasking talents from her!  I also keep a very tight calendar and I let nothing stand in the way of my daily to do list.

7. What advice do you have for someone who’s trying to find their passion and purpose in life?

No matter what anyone says or how far out of reach they may seem, always envision yourself accomplishing your goals and do everything in your power to achieve them, and it will happen!  And YES, what every wise person has ever told you is completely true – there’s no secret ingredient to success. It’s about hard work and believing in yourself every step of the way.

Marie Young Feature - Good Lookn Out

ABOUT YOU + YOUR STYLE

Where are you from and what’s your occupation?

I’m from Pasadena, California but I currently reside in Sacramento, California. I am a woman of many hats, however currently, I’m a self employed Digital Strategist for a few folks.

How do you define your personal style?

My personal style is eclectic + minimalist. I like balance in my wardrobe, so I may wear all black one day with a signature accessory piece to set my whole outfit off.

marie-young-goodlooknout

Name 5 must have wardrobe staples every woman should own?

– Black Strappy heels

– Daisy Dukes

– Black pants

– The cutest white tee

– Gold sandals

ABOUT GoodLooknOut

How long have you been a blogger?

For a little over three years and it’s been a very interesting ride too!

What inspired you to start GLO and what is your vision for GLO?

I was unemployed, bored and pregnant! I read a lot of blogs and decided, hey, I can do this. Never thought I’d go psycho crazy and fall in love with it! My vision for GLO is to create an online destination, for women to share, learn and most importantly be inspired into growth. You know, look out for one another!

GoodLooknOut

What is the definition of a GLO girl?

GLO Girl is witty, caring with a intense desire to help a fellow sista out. Pretty simple!

What’s the best and toughest thing about being a blogger?

The best thing about blogging are the relationships you form with other bloggers from all over the world. I’ve made friends with people, I’d never come to know in my usual day-to-day routine. I can go to any city and always find something fun to get into because of the relationships I’ve formed with bloggers from all over.

The toughest thing about blogging is being able to stomach trolls and negative comments. As bloggers, you put yourself out there for the world to see and, unfortunately, not everyone will like what you put out there. Some bloggers don’t even dare to read the comments after pressing the publish button and I know exactly why. Getting over the hump of not caring what others say or think is easier said than done.

ABOUT YOUR LIFESTYLE

What makes you happy & what inspires you?

Growth inspires me and makes me happy! I love the feeling of mastering something or being able to take a lesson from an experience. The relationship I’ve formed with myself and my higher power really keeps me going too. I love the fact that through faith, I’ve been able to always see the glass half full and “go with it”, so to speak. I’m also inspired by people who speak life into themselves and into others. You know those people you meet who make you want to do better, challenge you and have the unique ability to make you feel uncomfortable. These are the people my mind has always been attracted to. I find them and then I do what I can to keep them around.

As a wife, mother, and entrepreneur, how do you find balance in your everyday life?

I actually try my hardest to follow this zen checklist I created a few weeks back. It took me until 29 years of age (omg did I just reveal that) to realize that life without a sense of balance is no life at all. I’ve tried hard to take hold of my life with proper time management, scheduling time to do absolutely nothing and ensuring that I’m spending time cultivating my creative needs. Don’t get me wrong, there are still those times where I absolutely FAIL and nothing gets done AT ALL!

Marie Young - Good Lookn Out

What are 3 things you do daily to maintain a healthy lifestyle?

(1) I go to boot camp three times a week, (2) try to eat as many small meals as possible throughout the day and (3) drink an insane amount of water, sans any soda whatsoever. This is the only way, I feel, you will make it in this process, junk food infested world.

Any advice for someone who’s trying to find their passion and purpose in life?

Stay focused, stay committed and stay in your creative space as much as humanly possible. Things don’t always come together until that moment you’ve worked so hard that even you think you’re about to go insane. Then, BAM things will slowly start piecing themselves together!

Life + Style Feature | Alissa of The Adored Life

September 17, 2014 by Whitney 12 Comments

Alissa is a recent college graduate from Kansas. Thanks to Bloglovin‘, I found her site a few months back. I enjoy the way she incorporates some of the latest trends in her OOTD posts without losing her sense of personal style. It’s a genius, stylish mix! She has a witty sense of humor and knack for making you cry laughing while reading her posts! Always wearing the pretties baubles and cutest heels, Alissa is indeed living the “Adored Life“. Be sure to hop over and check out her blog after you’re done reading her interview. Enjoy!

lifestyle feature - the adoredlife

ABOUT ALISSA & HER STYLE

Where are you from & where do you currently live?

I’m from Wichita, Kansas. I currently reside in Kansas City, Kansas.

How do you define your personal style?

This has always been hard to define for me. I feel like my friends are better able to identify my style before I am!

Style Feature - The Adored Life

Name 5 wardrobe staples every woman should own.

– A killer black dress

– A pair of heels that make you feel like Beyonce

– Jeans that give you legs for days

– A bag that makes you feel like a boss

– A good, classic shirt that makes you feel like you run the world

What are your top shopping destinations for…

Clothes: J. Crew, Banana Republic, Forever 21, Zara

Shoes: Nine West, Zara, Nordstrom

Jewelry & Accessories: Hello Cheeseburger for almost all of my accessories lately!

ABOUT THE ADORED LIFE

How long have you been a blogger?

I’ve been blogging for about two years. This includes about six months where I was just writing for myself and had no intention of anyone ever reading it! I look back and cringe on those posts but have to embrace that I was at that spot at one time and move on.

Have you attended any blogging conferences? If yes, what’s the most memorable thing you’ve learned?

I haven’t attended any conferences but I’ve gotten to do a lot of online classes. Since I just recently graduated college I haven’t been able to afford a lot of extra expense for blogging but attending a conference is on my list of wants!

Alyssa-The-Adored-Life

A Few Extras

Who or what inspires you and keeps you motivated?

I think that it’s a mix of the people that I surround myself with and life in general. I have an incredible support system of independent women and supportive men that encourage me to go what I want. I’m also really inspired that I live in 2014 and get the chance to start my own career, even as an entrepreneur at the age of 23 and that is perfectly acceptable. Sometimes that means that you have to juggle three different jobs and lose some sleep but I am so lucky that I get to chase not only one of my passions, but three!

Who are some of your style inspirations?

I really love Olivia Palermo and her everyday style. She never looks overdone but always polished and chic. I am also very inspired by TV shows such as House of Cards and Mad Men. The costume design is just incredible. It’s not always my aesthetic but I appreciate the beauty of every outfit. Claire from House of Cards has a sleek, powerful but subtly sexual wardrobe and I love it.

The-Adored-Life

Any advice for someone who wants to start a style blog?

If I could say one thing, it would be to blog for yourself. Don’t blog because you want attention, money or companies to work with you. If you don’t find out who you are, what your voice is and do it for yourself you will lose who you are and every bit of criticism will destroy you. Take the time to be confident in who you are and your voice. Don’t do it for anyone or anything else other than you.

July 16, 2014 by Whitney 11 Comments

Hey, hey! 🙂 Today I’m introducing you to another featured blogger for the #summerwithnic series! While I’ve never met this blogger in person, I can assure that Alison of Get Your Pretty On  is one of the sweetest bloggers I’ve worked with and met via-internet. Her kindspirit and great style come across in all her posts, and I’m sure you’ll get the same vibes when reading her interview. Enjoy! 🙂

Get Your Pretty On - Style Feature

ABOUT ALISON + HER STYLE

I’m a mom of three and former actress/print model turned virtual stylist/blogger.  I live in a suburb of Dallas, TX with my hubby, our three kiddos and our golden retriever.

How do you define your personal style?

My basic everyday style is casual chic with some fun and trendy touches.

Get-Your-Pretty-On-Feature
What are your 5 must have wardrobe items for the summer?

Maxi dress, maxi dress, maxi dress, maxi dress, maxi dress.  No, just kidding!  Although I could live in them.

– Maxi Dresses

– Metallic Sandals

– Fedora

– Bright Tees and Tanks

-Printed Shorts

Name 5 must have wardrobe staples every woman should own?

– A great pair of riding boots

ABOUT GET YOUR PRETTY ON (GYPO)

How long have you been a blogger?

I started GYPO in September of 2012.

What inspired you to start GYPO?

After falling into a mom rut of wearing only yoga pants all day, every day, I was inspired to do something about my wardrobe.  GYPO gave me the accountability that I needed to get dressed every day and feel pretty again!

GYPO-Pretty-Dress
Where do you see GYPO in 5 years?

GYPO is constantly evolving.  I see my virtual styling programs getting bigger and better each time.  In five years, I’d love to be the go-to source for everyday virtual styling.

What’s the best and toughest thing about being a blogger?

The best thing is the creativity, friendships and flexibility in my schedule.  The toughest is having all of the responsibility on me to make everything happen!

ALISON’S LIFESTYLE

What makes you happy & what inspires you?

Spending time with my family makes me truly happy, as does dark chocolate, iced green tea and a glass of pinot grigio on the patio.  I’m truly inspired by the women in my style challenge programs.  They are amazingly supportive and encouraging and not afraid to step out of their comfort zones.

What are 3 things you do daily to maintain a healthy lifestyle?

– Drink water

– Pray/meditate

– Work out

Cavenders-Family-2
As a wife, mother, and entrepreneur, how do you find balance in your everyday life?

I have to MAKE balance, it doesn’t happen.  When work is over, it’s over.  Some days that means forcing myself to close my laptop so I can be present for my family.

Any advice for someone who’s trying to find their passion and purpose in life?

If you’re working in a job that doesn’t excite you, you owe it to yourself to discover what does.  A good way to do this is by doing what you love on the side for awhile.  I blogged part-time until I was able to transition into it full time.

Style + Lifestyle Feature: Isaiah of A Collected Gentleman

July 9, 2014 by Whitney 5 Comments

Today’s featured blogger has been featured on WNJ before as part of my Thrifty Friend features. He’s actually the only male blogger I’ve the pleasure of working with so far. Isaiah, the style blogger behind A Collected Gentlemen, is not only an expert thrifter, but he’s also an inspiring young man who loves his family, photography and has a “thing” for timeless style. I admire his style, drive and passion and I think after reading his inspiring life + style interview, you’ll feel the same way. 😉 My favorite part of the interview is his words of wisdom to those wanting to start a style blog – his advice is dead on! But enough of what I think, lol. Scroll down and check out A Collected Gentleman for yourself…enjoy!

A-Collected-Gentleman-Feature-WNJ

Where are you from and what’s your occupation?

I was born in New Jersey and raised in North Carolina. I’m a freelance photographer as well as a blogger.

How do you define your personal style?

My personal style is all over the place. I consider myself a melting pot. I like to take different styles and mix them into my own. I take elements of street-wear and prep.

ABOUT A COLLECTED GENTLEMAN (ACG)

How long have you been a blogger & what inspired you to start ACG?

I’ve been a blogger for 3 years now and my inspiration to start ACG came from wanting to change my image. I loved the timeless look of people wearing suits and oxfords.

What are are you feelings on male representation in the blogging community?

I think it’s great. One thing I will say about the blogging community – everyone looks out for each other and they’re always happy to support you. I’ve never felt negativity or hate form male bloggers. Since day one of certain ACG, I was embraced and given advice on becoming a better blogger.

unnamed (6)

I notice you have a passion for photography. What about photography do you like?

I love to capture the essence of beauty, weather it’s of a person, nature, or architecture.

What’s you vision for ACG?

My vision for ACG is for it to inspire pope the way I was inspired when I was first introduced to bloggers Street Etiquette and The Style Blogger. Those guys changed the way I looked at clothes, self-acceptance, and art.

ABOUT ISAIAH’S LIFESTYLE

What inspires & motivates you?

My family inspires and motivates me 100%. We’ve been through so much, and just to see my 3 little brothers graduate from high school and attend college is amazing. Also having my Mom see me graduate meant the world to me. They’re’ so proud of what my blog has become and that keeps me going. Every time my Mom calls me she reminds me to never loose my passion.

Who are some of your style-spirations? (family member, bloggers, celebrities, ect.)

I really don’t have any, but I really admire and draw a lot of my inspiration from women’s style – they make it look effortless.

A Collected Gentleman

Any advice for someone who wants to start a style blog?

Don’t do it for the fortune or fame. Just do it because it’s something you love to do. People always say that everything is so saturated. The people who are really passionate about it will stand out. Figure out what you want to do and work on it day and night – enjoy every minute of it, the good and the bad. You shouldn’t let negativity stop you. The worst thing you can do is let yourself get in your own way. Just keep pushing, work hard on your dreams and don’t give up. Enjoy your journey.

About YSK

How long have you been a blogger?

I began blogging in 2012, one year after I got married. Blogging allowed me to express my creative side and also meet new friends, like Whitney! 😉

What inspired you to start YSK?

Your Stylist, Karen is not only a blog but it is also my business. I recently launched my new website that highlights YSK, the business. I am a personal stylist and personal development coach that serves professional women.

Your-Stylist-Karen-Style
Where do you see YSK in 5 years?

In five years, YSK will have successfully helped hundreds of women, on an individual basis, as well as through YSK LifeStyle workshops. YSK will have created at least three more service areas to help women style themselves from the inside out.

What’s the best and toughest thing about being a blogger?

The best thing about being a blogger is having the ability to reach and connect with so many people from all different walks of life. I’ve had Skype conversations with my blogger pals in other countries and collaborated with like minded women after meeting at conference, like Lucky FABB. The toughest thing about being a blogger has to be the pressure to stay consistent. I have so much I want to share with my readers but do not always have the time to make things “perfect.” My need for perfection can get the best of me and it takes me longer to post than I would like. Stick with me and I always come back with something useful!

Karen’s Lifestyle

What makes you happy & what inspires you?

Serving God by using the talents he gave me to draw more people unto him. It’s not as complicated as it sounds, I promise! I just go about my day being open and honest with those that I come into contact with and HE does the rest.

What are 3 things you do daily to maintain a healthy lifestyle?

1. I am working on portion size because I have learned that

even when eating healthy, there CAN be too much of a good thing!

2. I experiment with new recipes from “Skinny Taste”

and you can find some of my favorites on my Skinny Pinterest boards.

3. I love going to a nearby park and walking the trails.

Enjoying nature and staying fit allows for the perfect weekend combo.

As a wife, professional, and entrepreneur, how do you find balance in your everyday life?

Trial and error taught me some pretty awesome life lessons. My priority is my role as a wife so I know that my actions have to reflect that declaration. I make sure to put the computer down and actively engage with my spouse at the end of the day.

Your-Stylist-Karen-Fashion

Any advice for someone who’s trying to find their passion and purpose in life?

Pray and ask for guidance if you are seeking YOUR passion and purpose in life. I emphasize YOUR because it is so easy to try and follow the path of someone else that you deem successful. You have a unique life path and nobody can do it better!
