Nic’s List – Top 5 Entertainment Moments of the Week {DWTS, RHONY, Kim & Kanye & MORE!}

Happy Friday! I want to jump right into my Top 5 Entertainment Moments of the Week because I have lots to say! Can’t wait to read your feedback – I know it’s going to be good! :-)

1. Dancing With the Stars. I stopped watching this show years ago but when heard DJ Tanner from Full House (Candace Cameron-Bure) and NeNe Leaks were contestants this season, I thought I’d give the show another try. For the most part, I’m pleased with the show thus far. I really enjoy watching Candace dance and as I said on Facebook, I love what she stands for. I just want her to loosen up a bit and stop over-thinking it. Just let it flow! Unlike Candace, you can tell that Nene is having the time of her life! She opened the season with her partner Tony a few weeks ago – such a crowd pleaser! The only beef I have with DWTS is the fact that Billy Dee Williams is still there. Yes, he is a legend but it’s just painful to watch him (barely) shuffle across the dance floor. For his sake and for his health, I hope he gets voted off next week. Not sure he can take much more. :-/

2. The Kim & Kanye Vogue Cover. Although this was news last week, people are still buzzing aout the Kim & Kanye Vogue cover. I’m going to go ahead and say that I like the cover. They look great and they seem happy. Who am I to judge? I may not agree with their lifestyle decisions or past (and previous) actions but, I’ve always respected them for their impeccable work ethic. I think it was a smart (and very calculated) move for Vogue. I believe this cover will  be one of the magazines highest selling issues. Kim & Kanye have some die-hard fans together and desperately. Their fans will purchase the magazine just to have a tangible copy in their possession. And even if they don’t “sell” as many magazines as they may have predicted, Vogue’s social media presence has probably sky-rocketed and gained a new following thanks to this cover. Talk about a well played business move. Nicely done Anna Wintour…and Kim & Kanye. They all knew what they were doing. ;-)

The Real Housewives of New York City, Season 6

3. The Real Housewives of New York. I’ve been a fan of the Real Housewives franchise since the beginning. As a reality TV fanatic, it feeds my need for drama and in some cases “ratchetness”, LOL! No judging – we all have our vices, lol! :-D Anyway, this season RHONY seems to be a bit dry. Sure, Ramona and Sonja are still fun to watch but since Jill and Bethany left, the show’s been hanging on my a thread. I still watch, hoping the show revives itself in some way. But I’m not sure how much longer they’ll be on TV. After this season, they may lose a fan.

4. American Idol. After I shared my thoughts with you on this new season, I was ready for some GREAT American Idol moments. Well, I’ve been let down. As the season has unfolded, I find the contestants to be extremely underwhelming (as a whole). Aside form J-Lo’s on point fashion and Harry’s witty commentary, the show just isn’t entertaining me anymore. Hubby has given up on it and has moved to The Voice, lol. I think I’ll take his lead and start watching that. ;-)

5. Scandal. OK, last nights episode was WAY too much for me (in a good way). There was so much “scandal” and way too many twists and turns…whew! I’m seriously still on edge from watching, lol! The show constantly has me on edge and by the looks of my social media friends, I’m not alone in feeling this way. LOL! My advice, watch the show with a paper bag next to you in case you hyperventilate. Remember, breathe in, breathe out…whoo-sah!

So tell me, how did you feel about the Kim & Kanye magazine cover? Are you a fan of DWTS, The Housewives or any other show I mentioned? If so, or if not, let me know!

I wish you all a happy and stress-free weekend. Feel free to follow along with me on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook too – I’m always posting something! :-) Until next week, be blessed & be safe…XO!

Nic’s List – Top 5 Fashion Moments of the Week

Happy Friday! Today’s edition of Nic’s List is all about fashion! After surfing the web and catching up on my favorite blogs this week, I came across some pretty amazing fashion moments. So, let’s take a look at my Top 5 Fashion Moments of the Week.

Fashion-Favorites

1. J-Lo in Neon. When I saw her wearing this ensemble on American Idol this week, I immediately fell in love with it. She looked so radiant and fresh! Yes, the color is vibrant but the look itself is so simple. She let the color of the outfit shine – no gaudy or over bearing accessories necessary. And that “I Dream of Jeannie” ponytail?! HOT! ;-)

2. Jessica Alba wearing print. By now you know that I’m an animal print lover. So of course when I came across this photo of Jessica Alba wearing an Anthropologie print blazer, I loved it! The blazer is perfect for springtime and like J-Lo, Jessica let the jacket speak for itself. Her look was casual, chic and cool!

3. Ledisi in overalls. I’m not usually a fan of overalls on adults but, Ledisi is changing my mind. Her laid back look and neon heels had me quite smitten – talk about adding a POP of color! :-)

4. Simply Just Lovely in black and white. I just started following Erin, the blogger behind this look, and I LOVE her style. She’s very funky, fashion-forward and chic, all while staying true to her personal style. She posted this look this week and I am such a fan of her side slit pants, as well as her over all style. Check her out!

5. EatStylePlay in vintage. My blogger buddy Elle served it with her latest outfit post. The vintage coat, purchased in DC, is such a great find! Elle’s dress also caught my eye – the fit and print of the dress is perfect! All in all, she nailed this look!

So tell me, are you a fan of any of my top 5 fashion moments? If so, which one? Did you come across any fashion moments of your own this week? Let me know!

Have a wonderful weekend, be blessed & stay safe…XO!

Wardrobe Wednesdays – Menswear for Women

Today for Wardrobe Wednesday, I’m talking about how to style menswear for women. I’m such a casual dresser, when I’m not at work, and the one thing I love to do is incorporate menswear or menswear inspired pieces into my outfits. To be honest, I haven’t done too much of this lately but when Springtime rolls around that will change. Let’s take a look at a few pieces you can use to easily style menswear for women.

____

Look #1

1. Oversized Coat - Although the houndstooth coat pictured below isn’t for a man, the piece looks/seems structured to fit a man.

2. White Button Down - This is probably the easiest and most perfect item to use when styling menswear for women! It’s also an item that can easily be thrifted. ;-)

3. Boyfriend Jeans - These jeans are another staple item for creating the perfect menswear for women look.

*adding a classic black tote, black pumps, and bold jewelry brings the look altogether and adds a nice feminine touch*

 Look #2

1. Graphic Hoodie - Like the one pictured below, a nice graphic hoodie is a great menswear inspired item to have in your closet.

2. Skinny Jeans - While not a menswear item, skinny jeans go great with a graphic hoodie. It’s the perfect pairing for such a stylish menswear for women look!

*pairing bright accessories with a look like this adds a soft and feminine touch*

Nic’s List – Lupita, San Francisco & More!

Happy Friday lovely people! I am so happy the weekend is finally here. Although I have a few things planned, I’m just happy that I’ll be able to relax a bit and enjoy family and friends. Before my weekend begins, of course I have to share the 5 things I loved this week!

{Week 1.27-1.31}

1. Lupita Nyong’o: I can’t remember the last time I was SO in awe of a celebrity’s style. Lupita is hands down my new style crush and even though my personal style is a bit different, I’m really enjoying watching her style evolve. As a fashion newcomer, she is well on her way to becoming a fashion icon.

2. Making Travel Plans: One of my goals this year was to travel more.  I’ve been doing a lot of research of different locations and the hubby and I are narrowing down a few places we’d like to visit. We’ve both been to different parts of Cali, but we’eve decided that San Francisco is definitely a place we’d like to (re) visit.

3. READING: Before life got too busy, I used to read all the time. I mean I’d read several novels a month on my Nook. While I don’t have time to sit and read several novels anymore, I have been reading a lot of magazines and motivational reads lately. One of my new favorites magazines (which I just subscribed to) is Entrepreneur. It’s a great magazine filled with money, business, tech and other information you can actually use. I’ve also subscribed to Money Magazine – another great read!

4. Bloggers in Plaid: I know plaid has been on trend for a while now and I’ve seen many bloggers rocking plaid blazers, pants, etc. One of my favorite plaid looks of the week was from Chic on the Cheap. This outfit is so chic and simple – I LOVE it! Seeing this look has given me inspiration to pull out my thrifted plaid blazer. I can’ t wait!

P.S. Lydia is one of my fave bloggers! ;-)

5. Hair: I posted this picture on Facebook the other day. As you can tell from my blog posts, I enjoy changing up my hair every now and then. ;-) These ” hairspiration ” pics are all styles that I’d like to try – they’re all different but still just as fabulous! Which is your favorite??

Wardrobe Wednesday – 2014 Grammys Fashion Recap

We’ve made it to another Wardrobe Wednesday! Today, I want to talk Grammys fashion. I remember being in high school and getting so excited about the Grammys. I was always more excited about the performances than what the celebrities were wearing. Now that I’m older, that has changed. I’m not as easily impressed with the “live” performances so, I get more excited about the fashion. This year however, I was excited about the Beyonce and Jay opening number. To be honest, I was not moved by their performance. I found it underwhelming. Nonetheless, I still enjoy their music. But let’s get on with my top Grammys fashion picks!

Ciara - Emilio Pucci

Zendaya Coleman - Emanuel Ungaro

Tamar Braxton - Michael Costello

Hands down, Ciara looked absolutely gorgeous on the red carpet. Not only was her pregnancy glow very obvious, but her skin appeared flawless. I really enjoyed the sparkly Emilio Pucci gown – perfect fit! Disney kid, and one of my little sisters favorites, Zendaya Coleman went for a more edgy look. Her Emanuel Ungaro dress caught my eye because it was something different. The sheer top and revealing bottom may have pushed the envelope for some but, I thought it was just the right amount of sexy. Tamar Braxton also showed us a sexier and softer side in her red Michael Costello gown. She also gave us classic and elegant, and her hair was styled perfectly. A nice side swept bang and a cut is always a good idea. She won! ;-)

Giuliana Rancic - Alex Perry
20140128-182852.jpg
Alicia Keys - Armani Prive

My last three favorite Grammys fashion favorites include Chrissy Teigen, the lovely wife of singer John Legend. I thought her shimmery, floor length Johanna Johnson gown was simply stunning. I love a good dose of shine and shimmer so this look was a no brainier when mentioning my fave looks. Another favorite, Giuliana in Alex Perry. Orange is my favorite color so this dress caught my eye immediately. The fit of the dress and the semi-sheer top were perfect for her frame. Alicia Keys was my final red carpet favorite. I mean between her curves, the plunging neckline, the electric blue color….what’s not to love? She owned her look and exuded much confidence and elegance.

Did you get a chance to watch the Grammys? If so, did any of your favorite fashion moments make my list? Were you impressed with the Beyonce and Jay opening number? Let me know! Enjoy your day and be blessed…XO!

Nic’s List – Beyonce & Jay Z, Thrifting, and More!

TGIF! Before I head off to enjoy my weekend, I want to introduce you all to my latest feature on the blog. I’ve decided to do a Nic’s List post every Friday. This list will include 5 things and will serve as a weekly roundup. The list can range from a certain food/recipe, a particular blogger, quote, tv show, etc. I shared a post with you a while back  expressing how I want to make this an all inclusive site so, I hope this weekly feature will help propel my vision. Here goes!

{Week 1.13-1.17}

_____

1. My Hervé Bernard Wrap: I purchased this warm and cozy wrap from 2nd Avenue in Laurel, Maryland and I’ve been wearing it for 5 days straight. Obsessed much? LOL…;-)

Wrap: Hervé Bernard, Thrifted// Clutch & Skirt: Thrifted

2. Part II, On the Run: This song has been playing in my car, home, etc. all week and I cannot stop listening. I think it’s the old school vibes I get from the song – the beat is sick! It could also be the passionate and semi-raw  lyrics mixed with Beyonce’s breathy delivery. Whenever these two (Beyonce & Jay Z) do a collaboration, I’m usually hooked. Case in point, Part II, On the Run (Magna Carta Holy Grail).

3. Foodie Boards & Pins: I’ve been on a food pinning spree! My foodie board on Pinterest has been popping, lol! I’ve fixed 2 recipes this week from the pins I’ve found. I mean does this salmon not look DELICIOUS?! This is the picture I pinned and used as inspiration for Tuesday nights dinner. It was a success – hubby and I both cleaned our plates!

4. My Curvy Fashionista Post: I’m now a contributing blogger over at The Curvy Fashonista’s blog! I’m such an admirer of Marie, the creator of the blog, and I am so thankful for this opportunity. As a fashion and vintage lover, Marie has given me a platform to share my knowledge with her readers. My 1st post is now live  so, feel free to head over and check it out! What a blessing – God is good!

::Wardrobe Wednesday:: Golden Globes Edition

Today’s Wardrobe Wednesday post is dedicated to the Golden Globes! I’m always excited when award season rolls around. As a movie buff, music lover and self-proclaimed fashion enthusiast, this time of year is one of my favorites! From the red carpet and the acceptance speeches, I look forward to just about every award show. So of course, I have to share my top fashion (and hair) picks from the 2014 Golden Globes.

Lupita Nyong'o, Golden Globes

Lupita Nyong’o in Ralph Lauren.

Reese Witherspoon, Golden Globes

Reese Witherspoon in (custom) Calvin Klein Collection.

I must confess that I was a bit underwhelmed with some of the fashion choices. All the celebs were decked out, but these were the few looks that really stuck with me. Actress Lupita Nyong’o, star of 12 Years a Slave (winner for Best Picture) was absolutely radiant. The color of the gown against her flawless skin was breath taking – certainly best dressed in my eyes. Classic and simple, Resse Witherspoon displayed so much confidence and class in Calvin Klein Collection. The fit of the dress was superb and the simple jewelry was a great choice.

Jennifer Lawrence, Golden Globes

Jennifer Lawrence in Dior.

Angela Bassett, Golden Globes

Angela Bassett in Ines Di Santo.

I saw that some people weren’t really feeling Jennifer Lawrence in Dior. On the contrary, I thought she looked very pretty. I immediately thought “sophisticated elegance” when I saw her in this gown. The edgy hair, makeup and accessories really brought the entire look together. Wrapping up my red carpet choices is the always elegant and stunning Angela Bassett. I mean what more can you say – she’s gorgeous! This dress, like the one Reese wore, was very simple yet had just the right amount of sparkle. She gave just enough sexy with the sheer plunging neckline.

Golden-Globes-2014

20140114-152537.jpg

When it comes to hair, it seems that most celebs went with sleek, chic, or edgy. I was all about the sleek and edgy! Hayden Panettiere’s slicked back her mid-length hair and I thought that was a great look. Robin Wright and Jennifer Lawrence went with the edgy short cuts – my fave! There’s something about a woman with short hair that I love. Which brings me to Lupita Nyong’o. The part in her hair set it off for me. I think it’s safe to say that style and hair-wise, she can do no wrong in my book, lol!

So who were some of your faves from the Golden Globes? Do you agree with my picks? Let me know! Until tomorrow, take care and be blessed.

_____

Golden-Globes-Diane-Keaton

P.S. I have to give an honorable mention to Diane Keaton. Her quirky and classic style has been a favorite of mine for years. No one can rock a tux or men’s suit like Diane! She’s the queen of androgynous fashion!

On Trend – Oversized Coats & Plaid

Happy Fashion Friday! Today’s post is all about 2 of the hottest Fall 2013 trends – Oversized Coats and Plaid. I’m excited to see oversized coats make a comeback because as an avid thrifter, I often spot the most unique oversized coats.

Eva Mendes’ look (below) is a perfect example of how to dress up an oversized coat. She still looks ultra  feminine and for a petite woman, she doesn’t get lost in the size of the coat. For a more relaxed, casual and trendy approach, check out Nicole Richie (bleow). I love her entire ensemble – it’s rocker-chic, yet still simple. She’s not over doing it with tons of statement pieces. She lets the long, oversized leopard coat do all the talking!

Eva_Mendes_oversized_coat

nicole_richie_leopard_coat

I’ve created a few looks as inspiration for day to night looks, incorporating this trend. Honestly, I love them all but if I was forced to pick one look form each category, I’d go with the tan coat and Nikes for my casual look and the snakeskin dress and grey coat for my night look. What about you? Which looks are more your style?

Now let’s talk about the plaid trend. Since my middle school days, I’ve been a fan of plaid. I don’t wear the pattern as often as I’d like but when I do, I’m a happy camper! I really like the way Jessica Alba wears this trend. The pop of leopard is perfect and the fedora is a nice finish. I actually shared this picture of Jessica a while back and she was wearing a plaid skirt. Clearly, this trend really works for her. Another celeb who rocks this trend is Reese Witherspoon. I like how she wore cowboy boots in her look – very cute!

rs_634x1024-130917101926-634.reese-witherspoon.lax-ls.1713_copy

You can see that I took Jessica’s lead when creating my inspiration look and added a fedora, as well as this leopard clutch. I’ve actually worn the same clutch here, here, and here. It’s a Love, Cortnie original and is one of my favorite pieces. In both looks, the ladies were carrying large totes so I added this Zara one to my creation. Which look do you prefer? I’m more partial to the 1st look  - the fedora does it for me!

Until next time, enjoy the weekend and be blessed…XO!
