Mother’s Day is coming up and if you’re having a hard time thinking of what to get your Mother, look no further! I’ve complied 2 sets that I’m sure will help you make a choice. When it comes to gifting Mother’s Day gifts, I get so excited! Although I buy little things for my mother here and there throughout the year, I like to give a little extra on this day. My little sister and I usually think in terms of themes when giving gifts to her. Below is a Floral Themed gift guide. I love the cute ring and the straw bag; so lady-like and pretty!

The next gift guide is more random; it’s got a little bit of everything. These gifts are similar ideas that my sister and I have for this year. My mom is super trendy and loves music so we can never go wrong with the latest R&B (or Jazz) CD, as well as a cutesy phone case. She also likes to take long hot baths to relax so a nice smelling candle is always a plus!

If you’re still having trouble or you’re budget won’t allow you to buy what you want, here are a few other ideas:

1. Cook your mother her favorite meal and invite her over for dinner.

2. Take her to see an early matinee; you can see a great movie earlier in the day to avoid the regular movie ticket prices.

3. If your mother is a reader, head to the thrift store and grab a few good books for (usually) under $2 a book.

The weekend has come and gone and I must say mine was not that eventful, LOL! I was in the house Friday, Saturday and Sunday with my mom because we were both under the weather. I think I watched more TV in those three days than I have in months! It was actually nice having a few days to really rest and relax. I’m feelin about 90% better so I think the R&R and meds paid off.

Because my weekend was a bit blah, I decided today’s post would be all about flowers & smiles. Corny, huh? Well, I must say I LOVE this outfit and it certainly brightens up my mood!

As I’ve said in previous posts, I am LOVING florals at the moment. I found the top at JcPenny’s a few weeks ago. I was walking through the department store to head out but I saw a few colorful tops on the way. So I sashay over to the Clearance rack and there it was…”Floral Perfection”! I immediately looked through the racks to see what else was there and to my surprise, I found some more goodies. That evening I found this top, another (black) floarl top and a pink, fishnet-like sweater. You’ll see them soon because I already have outfits planned for them, lol! ;-)

Celeb Inspired Friday’s: 2013 Golden Globe Edition

Happy Friday, friends! As most of you all know, the 2013 Golden Globes aired last Sunday. While there were many highlights, like Anne Hathaway & Jody Foster’s speeches, or Django and Christoph Waltz snagging awards, I definitely enjoyed the FASHION and RED CARPET moments the most! I was tempted to do Polyvore creations for almost all of my favorite looks, lol, but I stuck with my top two looks, TV host Nancy O’Dell and actress Lucy Lui.

Nancy looked absolutely stunning in her electric blue gown! I loved the way it fit her body and I also liked the fact that she wore her hair up. The drop earrings were simple and just enough for the look as well. For my creation I went with the same color, just a shorter dress. Its something that I can see myself wearing if I were to step out on a red carpet. Now all I have to do is find me a red carpet! ;-)

Next up is Lucy Lui’s floral Carolina Herrera Pre-Fall 2013 ball gown. When she was on the red carpet and then stepped on the stage as a presenter, I wasn’t sold on the look. But once I took a second look, I began falling for the dress. It was a perfect fit for her. As a petite woman, she pulled off this look VERY well. She, like Nancy, went for minimal jewelry which was a huge plus. With a gown this busy, accessories should definitely be minimal. If I were to wear recreate this look for myself or a client, I would go with a shorter more practical version. The Polyvore look below gives off a 1950′s vibe, which I love! It’s super girly and flirty.

A Glimpse of 2012

Happy Friday, friends!

With 2012 quickly coming to an end, I’ve had several days to sit and reflect on the ups and downs of this year and I am so thankful that my good days have outweighed my bad days. My life has come full circle in a way. It’s funny how life works. Just when you think you have it all figured out, something happens and it makes you realize that you have NO idea what you’re doing, lol. If it wasn’t for faith and prayer, I’d still be lost. But I am grateful that God has allowed me to see and understand what my purpose in life is. While I still don’t have all the answers, I have more than I did before. And I am ready to face 2013 with a smile on my face, for I know that God has GREAT things in store for me!

One “GREAT thing” that I’m estaic about is launching my upcoming online shop. As most of you know, I’ve been selling (vintage and non vintage) items via-my blog page. Well come mid-January, my online shop will be up and running! I’ve had so many great supporters throughout this process and I hope you all will continue to support my vision for Nic’s Picks in 2013. I plan to have even more unique, one of a kind items and I’m also in the process of planning a Spring Pop Up Shop to introduce even more items!

I usually write down my goals for the year in my journal, which I will finish doing this weekend, but the one thing I want to post here are my goals for my blog. I have many, but here are 5 that I want to share.

1. Continue to blog more consistently (what blogger doesn’t want to work on this) ;-)

2. Continue to blog with a purpose!

3. Expand my blogging by staring my YouTube channel.

4. Continue to network and attend even more blogging events.

5. Continue to connect with my readers…I am so thankful for you all!

God is working through me and I plan to continue to please Him by living my purpose driven life. With that being said, enjoy a few of my favorite looks I’ve posted in 2012. I hope you all have a blessed and prosperous New Year! I look forward to connecting with you all in 2013…XO!

Guess what? I’m wearing florals again!! I’ve had the sweater for a while now and what I love most about this particular sweater is that its light enough to wear during any season. On this day, I decided to pair the sweater with my hunter green jeans and leopard flats. I’ve quickly learned that a printed shoe can go with pretty much any look. Quick Style Tip: When in doubt, wear leopard ;-)

Before purchasing these jeans, I was a bit hesitant about wearing colorful denim. I’d seen several bloggers wear them but I wasn’t sure if that trend was for me. Mmmm, sounds like my Comfort Zone post, huh? LOl…Well let me tell you when I tried these on, I didn’t want to take them off! Here’s yet another example of a successful step outside of my style comfort zone. I love these jeans!

The day I purchased these, I also got a fuchsia pair! Quick style tip: When you find something that fits and that flatters you, but them/or it in every color! My mother used to tell me that all the time and I never listened. How cheesy to buy the same shirt in all colors? Cheesy no. Genius, yes! It’s a money saver and a time saver when figuring out outfits. To complete my new addiction for colored denim I’d like to own a pair in electric blue and maybe even some shade of orange.
