June 7, 2016 by Whitney 6 Comments

Aside from my morning playlist I also have a lists of motivating podcasts that I listen to everyday. It’s no secret that I’m always looking for ways to be inspired and uplifted, especially on-the-go. Therefore I often listen to these podcasts during my drive to and from work. I also listen when working at my desk or even while cooking. The 5 motivating podcasts I’m sharing today have without a doubt helped improve my life and business, for the better. Let’s take a look…

Motivating Podcasts

1. VOUS Church | When I need a quick does of spiritual inspiration, this is my go-to. The messages/sermons are given by Rich and Dawncheré Wilkerson, lead pastors of VOUS Church in Miami, FL. After watching their reality show on Oxygen I was intrigued by how this young Christian couple is able to build (and lead) a church, maintain a healthy and Godly marriage and serve so many. Even if you’re not a (regular) churchgoer, I’m sure there will be inspiring takeaways and practical applications you can take from this podcast.

Listen to my favorite VOUS Church episode.

2. The Lively Show | “Adding a little extra intention to your everyday” with each episode is something the host/founder Jess Lively is very adamant about. With over 3 million downloads, this must-listen podcast is perfect for female entrepreneurs and females in general! Jess interviews a diverse and well-rounded group of women, and men, and offers transparent and relateable advice during her personal “favorites” and Q&A episodes.

3. Hashtag + Stilettos | Being the Twitter fanatic that I am, I remember finding out about this podcast from one of Mattieologie‘s retweets. Mattie was actually a guest on the podcast that day and of course, I had to click the link to listen. After listening to that interview, I found several other interesting episodes to shuffle through! Founder Sakita Holley covers several topics including career, business and travel. It’s the perfect podcast for on-the-go millennial women looking to succeed in their entrepreneurial endeavors or at their 9-5’s.

4. Mostly Mom | I recently started listening to this podcast last month. I was scrolling through Instagram one night, as I often do, and I saw that Tia Mowry had a new podcast episode. “I had no idea she even had a podcast,” I said to myself. I clicked on the link in her bio and saw a few interviews posted; one with actress Chloe Grace Moretz and the other with husband Cory Hardrict. That evening I listened to both and have been hooked ever since! It’s a podcast mixed with celebrity interviews as well as Tia’s take on fashion, social media, life as a mother and wife and other lifestyle topics.

Listen to my favorite Mostly Mom episode.

5. The School of Greatness with Lewis Howes | Recognized as one of the 100 entrepreneurs in the country under 30, Lewis Howes is probably one of my favorite people to follow online. This former pro athlete is a master at delivering well thought out and proven tactics to improve your life and business. He is truly one of the most motivating, passionate and ambitious entrepreneurs I’ve come across in a while. Listening to his interviews from inspiring and well-known people like Amy Purdy, Daymond John, Tim Robbins and Stacy London always puts me in “I can do anything” mood. He’s very well connected with some of the world’s most thought provoking and successful entrepreneurs and influencers. I’m also a huge fan of his 5-minute Friday episodes! What he’s created with The School of Greatness is phenomenal and I’m truly grateful that I found this podcast when I did.

#WNJInspired | The Importance of a Solid Starting 5

October 7, 2015 by Whitney 11 Comments

I’m sure we’ve all heard the saying, “you become like the 5 people you hang out with most – choose carefully.” This is actually one of my favorite sayings and one I’ve been taking rather seriously these days. I’m a firm believer in having a close, tight-knit group of people you can depend on, bounce ideas off of, and learn from. I call these people in my life my starting 5.

Let’s think about basketball for a minute. The starting 5 consists of the following players – (1) Point Guard, (2) Shooting Guard, (3) Small Forward, (4) Power Forward, and (5) Center. Without these key players, there would be no foundation and to be honest, there would be no game. So in the “game” of life, having a solid lineup is essential to your growth and success.

Having a Solid Starting 5

Success means different things to everyone. For me, success is living a purpose-driven life, while making a living inspiring women to be stylish, influential and fearless. Therefore I need motivating, honest, and direct people around me. I need those people who push me when I want to give up, those who are honest (and tactful) in helping me tweak or even change some of my ideas, and those who aren’t afraid to tell me when I’m in over my head or that I may need to set more realistic goals.

In the game of life, having a solid starting 5 is imperative for your growth. #wnjinspired

What you need from your starting 5 may be different, but having honest and motivating people on your team are traits that should be consistent. Whatever your definition of success, you cannot be truly successful (and happy) if those around you are negative, draining and unmotivated. It just won’t work. Think about the 5 people you spend most of your time with; are they helping you get to where you want to be? Also, are you helping them reach their goals?

Having a Solid Starting 5

So tell me, do you have a solid starting 5? Are you playing on the right team? Let me know your thoughts!

As always thanks for reading and commenting. Until next time, be blessed and stay safe…XO!

#WNJInspired | How to Get and Stay Motivated

June 2, 2015 by Whitney 9 Comments

It seems like just yesterday I was posting about vision boards and sharing some of my goals for 2015. Looking back, I am very pleased with my progress. I’ve been able to accomplish a number of the goals I set, and most of them I’ve checked off earlier than expected. However, there are still quite a few things left on my “to accomplish” list/vision board. Learning how to stay motivated to do so isn’t always easy, but it has gotten easier as I’ve gotten older. Here are 5 tips to help you get and stay motivated!

How to Stay Motivated

1. Write it down. | This tip is crucial, and it works! I’m always writing (or typing in my phone) something down. From personal thoughts, to tasks or grocery lists, to blog/business ideas, I’m what you call a “jotter”. I’m always jotting something down. I guess being a writer, it comes naturally. But lately I’ve taken writing things down more seriously. Thanks to Myleik Teele’s Learn More to Earn More Journal, writing down lists is much more effective and specific these days. Using this journal, I follow Myleik’s suggestions on “how to” journal and make lists. One side of the journal is for lists/tasks, and the other is for ideas, reminders and random thoughts. The journal comes with an in depth outline from Myliek, so following this was easy. Writing things down gets the ideas out of your head, on paper, and holds you accountable to make it happen. Try it.

2. Find & Stick to a Routine. | Like most humans, I’m a creature of habit. I thrive on routine. It keeps me on track and on task. Creating a routine and sticking to it is a sure way to stay motivated. Sure, things happen and plans change. When that happens roll with it and do your best to get back to your regularly scheduled program. Krystal of the Feisty House has some great tips on routines and staying on task!

3. Find a Mentor. | I don’t know how many times I’ve been told to “find a mentor in your field.” For years it was tough to find someone I could trust and someone I actually looked up to and believed in enough to be a mentor. I did eventually find that person, thank goodness, and I actually have several mentors to this day. Some of my mentors are aware, while others aren’t. I call those my “virtual/in my head” mentors. I follow them on social media for inspiration, watch their (FREE) webinars and videos on YouTube, and actually tweet out to them from time to time. Having both types of mentors is extremely helpful and imperative in the quest to stay motivated. If you’re looking for a mentor, make sure their goals and morals are aligned with yours. Send a short email or message, letting them know a little about you and how you’d like them to help. I’ve found that people are willing and available to help, but you have to make the first move. Ask and you shall receive.

4. Stop Watching TV. | This has been tough for me to do, but I can already see how it’s helped keep me motivated on my goals. I’m a huge TV buff, especially reality TV. And while it’s a struggle for me to peel myself away from a show, in order to accomplish my goals I have to spend more time working on that than feeding my mind with what’s on TV. I’ve started recording my “must watch” shows and binge watching them on the weekends. That way I’m using the time during the week to get more work done, but I still allow myself some time to enjoy my guilty pleasures. I’m still working on this…the struggle is real! How to Stay Motivated

5. Revisit & Tweak Your Goals. | Goals are great, but there maybe times you need to change your approach (or certain goals in general). That said, don’t be afraid to revisit your vision board or goal list and tweak somethings. As you go throughout the year you may find some goals need more time than you allotted for. Tweak it. You may have a listed goal that isn’t in line with your current vision. Tweak it and make the new goal fit your lifestyle. It’s OK to change/or rework your goals. As long as your constantly going after something positive and trying to better yourself, that’s all that matters.

So tell me, how do you stay motivated? What are some tips you have on the topic? Let me know below!
