Personal Style Monday – What to Wear to Work

Another week means another Personal Style Monday linkup! I hope you’ve all had a great weekend. Mine wasn’t that busy. There were  no events, no pressing deadlines…it was really nice. I was actually able to plan and lay out my outfits for the upcoming work week. I mean how many Monday’s, or days in general, do you wake up wondering “what to wear to work?” I do all too often. So planning ahead this weekend was a dream come true! Take a look at 5 items on my What to Wear to Work List and you’ll see why this outfit is work-wear appropriate

1. A Pair of Black Slacks. These pants are SO comfortable, thanks to the expandable waist and the stretch material. I usually wear them twice a week – usually Monday and Thursday (after I properly Fabreeze and throw them in the dryer with a dryer sheet). But the most important reason these pants are work-wear perfect is because they’re machine washable.

2. Cardigan, Blazer or Lightweight Jacket. Depending on your work environment, the temperatures vary. In my office, I sometimes get a bit chilly so I usually carry or wear a lightweight jacket or cardigan. Another thing you can do is leave a cardigan at work. I keep forgetting to do that, lol.

3. Sensible Heels. For me, kitten heels and comfortable flats are  work wear essentials. I love a good heel and a nice wedge but while at work, I choose to be stylish and sensible.

4. Minimal Jewelry. As a jewelry lover, wearing minimal jewelry can be challenging. I LOVE showing off and wearing great pieces and piling on bracelets and rings. But for work, I stick to simple pieces – studs, medium size hoops, a watch and one (or two) bracelets. Sometimes I’ll add a ring or a necklace but nothing too gaudy.

5. A Medium or Large Size Handbag (or Tote). When I’m not carrying my work bag, I opt for a larger purse. There are days when I carry papers or folders home from work. Having a something to carry it all in, that also fits my wallet and cosmetic bag inside, is important.

Speaking of “What to Wear to Work“, check out one of my favorite looks from last weeks linkup! I really love Cookie’s look – her jumpsuit is fantastic and the floral blazer was a perfect touch! This effortless look is also perfect for springtime!  Be sure to stop by her blog, Takei Inspirations, and say hi!

So tell me – what are some items on your “What to Wear to Work” list? Does your 9-5 call for pumps, flats or sensible heels? Let me know!

That’s all for now! Until tomorrow, be blessed & be safe…XO!

Februrary’s Personal Style Recap

Hello and happy Personal Style Monday! I’m coming down from a very busy and exciting pageant weekend. Yes, pageant season is in full swing and this weekend I was honored to severe as one of the judges for the International Junior Miss Maryland, DC & Virginia sate pageant. Getting to know several beautiful, motivated and intelligent young ladies was such a treat! I also had the chance to reconnect with some of my pageant family, as well as get to know many new faces. My family was there too so all in all, is was a very enjoyable weekend!

Moving onto today’s post, I wanted to do a brief recap of my February outfits. Needless to say, the weather has been stuck on freezing for several weeks so I wasn’t able to snap or post as many looks as I planned. However, I did enjoy the looks I did share!

I stepped outside of the box when I wore my sheer maxi skirt and I absolutely LOVED that I went for it! The skirt has become one of my favorite wardrobe pieces – there are so many ways I can wear it, while showcasing my personal style. I also enjoyed wearing a little color this month. Form the thrifted red pants  to the blue thrifted Janet Jackson inspired jacket, color was indeed present!

Of course I had to bring out the thrifted cape and show off my thrifted menswear stlye. I also stayed true to my casual and chic personal style when I dressed for the snowy weather. My thrifty grey ensemble kept me warm and stylish! ;-)

So tell me, what was your favorite look from February? Were you a fan of the sheer skirt or the thrifted menswear? Let me know!

Also, don’t forget to linkup your outfits below - I enjoy checking out your personal style! All I ask is that you link your outfit back to this post and don’t forget to visit other bloggers too!
Until tomorrow, be blessed and stay safe…XO!

Personal Style Monday – Snow Day OOTD

Happy Monday! I’m still getting over all the snow we got here in (Howard County) Maryland. I think the total accumulation was somewhere around 15-17 inches or so. While it was pretty to look at, it was no fun shoveling and digging out our cars. LOL! But we got it done – fingers crossed that’s the last of the snow for the season!

As you can probably imagine, I didn’t wear my most fashionable threads during the snow days. I did however wear this outfit right before the heavy snow came – this is my version of a (pre) snow day OOTD. ;-) Not 100% prepared, I didn’t have any boots so the thrifted flats had to do, lol!

Beanie: Dollar Store// Scarf: Gifted// Coat: Simply Be// Denim: Thrifted// Flats: Thrifted// Men’s Sweatshirt: Thrifted// Purse: Bakers (old)// Necklace: Thrifted// Ring: Purchased in Greece

Despite the snow, I was still able to enjoy my Valentine’s Day with the hubby. We went to the movies, lunch and shopped a bit – nothing too big. The movie we decided to go see was About Last Night. Can you say, hilarious?! Kevin Hart and Regina Hall were the perfect funny duo while Micheal Ealy and Joy Bryant were the perfect sweet balance. Overall the movie had a good message and provided a nice hearty dose of humor. If you haven’t seen it, you should make that your next movie choice.

So, did you get any snow in your area? What did you wear this weekend? Did you wear a snow day OOTD too? Let me know and be sure to link up your latest outfits below – I want to see your personal style! Don’t forget to link your outfit back to this post and feel free to visit the others who linked up too!

Thanks for reading and I’ll talk to you tomorrow. Be blessed & stay safe…XO!

Wardrobe Wednesdays – Fancy Sweaters, Combat Boots & Maxi Skirts

Today’s post is the first installment of Wardrobe Wednesdays. No worries – I still plan to host my Personal Style Linkups. Instead of Wednesdays, the linkups will now be on Mondays. So get your outfits ready because I want to see linking up next Monday! :-)

So let’s get into today’s post. Over the holiday break, I was busy cleaning my closets and drawers and began editing my wardrobe. After my thrifting tour, I was convinced that I had all the items I needed in my closet. Well, I was almost right. Going through my clothes, I began to notice that I had more items than I did outfits. Have you ever felt like that? You’ve got all these items of clothing and nothing goes together, or your missing that one item complete a look?

Well this experience helped me make a decision to turn my focus back to outfit (wardrobe) essentials, rather than wardrobe items.  To me, there’s a difference. Wardrobe essentials are what you need on a daily basis to complete your outfit. Depending on your lifestyle, this may differ. Wardrobe items are just that – items that you like but may not be necessary in order to create a cohesive wardrobe. That being said, I turned to Polyvore and social media for some inspiration and the 1st outfit below includes 3 wardrobe essentials I believe I should have in my closet: (1) blue skinnies, (2) black boots and (3) a (few) fancy sweater(s).

Those items are key to any great outfit. Thankfully, I have the blue skinnies and a few fancy sweaters/tops, thanks to thrifting. I don’t have any booties, combat boots or OTK boots. Crazy, I know. But I’m constantly developing my personal style so, there’s room and time for me to grow and add certain items to my closet. The outfit above is something I’d wear for sure! The sweat has just the right amount of print/pattern and those boots…I LOVE!

Moving onto the 2nd look. This outfit was inspired by image and style consultant, Tieko Nejon. When I saw the outfit on her Facebook page, I stopped in my tracks. I absolutely love the fact that she styled her maxi dress with a pair of Puma sneakers – genius! I also love the grandiose jewelry she added to the look – another style genius move.

*click HERE for more info on Tieko*

As you can probably tell, I’m a flats girl and I used to wear a lot of sneakers. Every Spring and Summer I vow to wear them more. I haven’t lived up to that but seeing Tieko’s outfit and putting this Polyvore look together has me inspired to get my sneaker game up. And to wear a cute or embellished pair with a maxi skirt makes the look so much cooler!  This leads me to my last two wardrobe essentials: (1) cute sneakers and (2) a maxi casual maxi skirt.

20140108-122117.jpgAll in all, I’m glad I figured out my wardrobe “issue”. I think we all have those moments where we think we have all the right clothes but it takes a thorough closet clean-out to really determine which wardrobe essentials we’re missing for our lifestyles. There are certain outfits that I swoon over and love but I’m smart enough to know that for my lifestyle and personal style, it’s not for me.

I’ve done several posts (HERE and HERE) about wardrobe staples and closet must haves and while I’ve followed my own advice, sometimes a good refresher is helpful. Have you ever had a wardrobe issue? Are there any wardrobe essentials that you think you’re missing? Do you have more “items” than outfits in your closet? Let me know! Be blessed…XO!

The 8th Day of “Thriftmas” – Red and Leopard Print

The 8th Day of “Thriftmas” is here and I’m excited to share some more of my purchases from my thrifting tour! I put this look together and thought, how perfect would this look be for a holiday party? I mean the red pants scream festive and the pops of gold really add something special to the outfit. Of course, adding leopard is always a necessary. ;-)  There’s nothing like a great red and leopard print OOTD this time of year  right? :-) All in all, this look shows off my personal style from head to toe!

Top: Thrifted, $3.00 (B-Thrifty in Woodbridge, VA)// Pants: Jones NY, $5.00 (B-thrifty in Woodbridge, VA)// Coat: Andrea Marin, $6.45 (2nd Avenue in Columbia, MD)// Necklace: Thrifted, 2nd Avenue// Purse: Vintage, Nic’s Picks

When I saw these pants at the B-thrifty  in Virginia, I squealed! After a weeks and months of looking for the perfect red pair of colorful pants, it was a relief to find these Jones New York pair hanging on the rack. I snagged them for $5.00 – sweet deal! I was also due for a new leopard print blouse. The one I usually wear has been through the wire and the wash one too many times. So this $3.00 blouse was the perfect replacement. Let the hubby tell it, I don’t need another thing that’s animal print. ;-) But I knew I wanted to wear a red and leopard print outfit this season so, I had to get the blouse.

When it comes to the black velvet coat, I splurged and paid about $7 for it, lol. ;-) It’s a lightweight coat with one button and it’s suitable for someone like me who doesn’t always like to wear heavy outwear. Even when it’s blistering cold out, the thought of bulky and puff coats makes me sweat. This velvet number puts my mind at ease. I can slide it on, add a scarf and keep it moving.

I’ve had the necklace for awhile now so I added it to this outfit because I thought it complimented the purse well. This purse has been in my collection for sometime and I even thought about adding it to my shop. But something told me to hold on to it just a little longer. Glad I did. ;-)

Needless to say, I love all the garments I purchased! Each item is an investment piece and that’s something I focused on while on the thrifting around. Do you have any favorite items from this look? Are you into the red, festive pants? What about red and leopard print – are you a fan of that combo? Let me know! And don’t forget to show off your personal style by linking up below. All I ask is that you link your post back to this one, or add the badge to whichever post(s) you linkup.  There’s no limit to how many outfits you can link so, show me what you got! TTYS….XO!

The 5th Day of “Thriftmas” – Holiday Weekend Wear {Thrifted & Budget Friendly }

On the 5th day of “Thriftmas“, I want to talk about thrifted and budget friendly holiday weekend wear! I know I’ve given some outfit inspiration posts here and there but today, I want to revert back to my “old ways”. I want to provide realistic outfit options that are similar to mine and under $100.  :-)

Tunic: Micheal Kors, Macy’s (Old)// Pants: Ellen Tracey, 2nd Avenue ($6.90)// Flats: Nine West, 2nd Avenue//Jewelry: Thrifted (2nd Avenue)

Of course my outfit is under $100, lol. I purchased this Micheal Kors Tunic a few years ago and it’s been one of my favorite Fall/Winter tops since then.  I paired it with the same hunter green Ellen Tracey denim from this post, and added my Nine West embellished flats. These were a thrift find back in the Summer. They were in mint condition and only cost me a few bucks. I also decided to add some accessories to my hair. This gold headband was initially for my little sister but, I ended up keeping it. LOL! I often purchase fun and cute little hair accessories like this from eBay.

I feel this outfit is perfect for hanging out with friends during the holidays. It works perfectly for a get together at someones house, or even for a laid back night out. If you like this look, check out the two budget friendly looks I created below. Which would you wear? Would you add anything to the look? Let me know!

Personal Style Linkup – Chunky Sweaters & Thrifted Heels

If you haven’t noticed, I’m starting to incorporate more heels in my wardrobe. Surprised, huh? I’ve actually been finding some comfy and practical ones while thrifting and the prices have been unbeatable. So of course, I can’t pass them up. The ones I’m wearing today’s post  add a little something extra to my look. I usually wear this chunky thrifted sweater with sneakers or flats. This time I wanted to shake things up so I added the heels and a pop of leopard.

Chunky Sweater: Thrifted (old), Goodwill// Denim: Roz & Ali (Dress Barn – On Sale HERE)// Scarf: Bakers// Clutch: Love, Cortnie// Heels: Unisa, Thrifted, $4.90 (2nd Avenue)

While I’m not the most “trendy”, I must say that I’m really into the “chunky sweaters” trend. I have plenty of thick, warm, chunky sweaters so I guess this is one trend I don’t mind embracing. I’ve had this colorful sweater for about 3 1/2 years and every time I wear it, it’s like saying hello to an old friend. I absolutely LOVE it – moth holes, imperfections and all…LOL!

scandal_ eyes_mascara

I figured with this look, I’d try the Rimmel London, Scandal Eyes Mascara. It was included in my Rose Vox Box, along with some other goodies I plan to share later. I’m not a makeup wearer and I don’t like things coming too close to my eyes so, I was a bit skeptical about trying the mascara. However I’m pleased to say that it was not clumpy, it went on smooth and it made my eyelashes even more full and pretty!

Well, that’s all for now. Don‘t forget to linkup your outfits below; I look forward to visiting your blogs. Thanks for linking up and don’t forget to include this post link or button (below) in whichever post you link. TTYS…XO!
