Style | Wearing Dresses Over Pants

I’m all about wearing dresses over pants and have been for years. It’s very boho chic, comfortable and easy; key elements to the perfect outfit. Needless to say when I saw this ($12) dress at Macy’s, my immediate thought was how cute it’d look over a pair of jeans. The paisley-floral mixed print and lightweight material also helped in winning me over.

A friend told me that I pull off this style very well. She then went on to let me know that not everyone can wear it the right way. That got me thinking; are certain styles and trends really only for certain people? After much thought, I came to the conclusion that if worn with confidence and if it fits a persons style aesthetic, anyone can wear anything.

If you, like me, plan to wear this trend throughout the spring/summer here are 3 simple styling tips for making this trend work:

1. Preferably skinnies. When wearing the dresses over pants trend I tend to go for skinny jeans/pants. I like the sleekness of a tighter pant over a flowy dress. I also find wearing skinnies under dresses is more flattering.

2. Accessorize. It’s no secret that I love to accessorize. With this trend I like to add statement necklaces, big earrings, or even statement cuffs.

3. Make it personal. As with any outfit be sure it fits your personal style. Have fun with colors, prints, and lengths when deciding which dress to wear over your pants.

Style | 5 Tips for Wearing a Casual Winter Outfit

Casual winter outfits have taken over my closet! Thanks to yesterday’s snow fall, this past weekends snow storm, and the cold weather in general, that’s all I think about when getting dressed in the mornings. Although I had to snap these pics in the evening, I was determined to show off one of my latest outfit, as well as share 5 easy tips on how to curate the perfect casual winter outfit.

Casual Winter OOTD

Top: Sejour, Nordstrom (Same) // Leggings: Vince Camuto, Nordstrom (Similar) // Lips: Revlon Color Burst, Red Velvet (Same)

Plus Size Casual Winter OOTD

1. Play with prints. I opted for stripes with this look and I’m glad I did. Adding prints to a casual look gives an outfit instant personality. Sure, I could have gone with a solid color top (like I do a most times), but for this look I wanted to do something different. Playing with prints was that something different and I’d like to think it worked. ;-)

2. Play with accessories. Accessories are more than just jewelry items; hats and scarves count too. Adding a cute tam or a beanie is the perfect way to style a casual winter look. Not only does it look cute, but it will also keep you warm!

3. Go for leggings or stretch denim. I’m partial to leggings, as I’m sure you can tell, but I’m also a fan of stretch denim. During the winter months it’s so easy to want to reach for something less appealing, like sweats or baggy pants. Quality leggings and stretch denim are easy to find at stores like Nordstrom, Marshalls and Macy’s. The two options also make for a nice smooth finish and are the perfect paring for casual winter pieces like tunics and over-sized sweaters.

4. Wear a pair of cute boots or booties. The perfect ending for a causal winter outfit is your shoe choice. Keep warm and wear a stylish pair of booties or combat boots. You can also throw on a pair of cute sneakers.

5. Stay warm. No matter what you decide to wear, be sure to stay warm. Casual winter outfits are fun to style, but don’t forget to choose pieces that are both stylish and practical.

Style | Styling Neutral Colors

There’s something about styling neutral colors that makes getting dressed in the morning a breeze. As a fan of black and brown, my love for neutrals should come as no surprise. Neutral colors are so easy to style and I think most of my style blogger friends would agree. Every time I browse Pinterest for outfit inspiration I see so many bloggers (and celebrities) wearing these colors. Some may see this neutral thing as a trend or fashion phase, but I think it’s here to stay.

Styling Neutral Colors

Neutral colors are a huge part of building a chic and simple wardrobe. You can easily create a plethora of outfits with a few good neutral pieces. Take the neutral queen herself, Kim Kardashian, for example. Her style has drastically changed over the years, thanks in large part to dating and marrying Kanye. Whenever she steps out, she’s usually dressed head to toe in neutrals. Her looks are so well put together and she looks undeniably chic and effortlessly stylish.

Aside from Kim K., one of my favorite style bloggers, Shirley, does this neutral styling thing so well. When I made the decision to transition to a more simple wardrobe, I immediately began drawing inspiration from Shirley. I admire her simple and minimalist take on personal style, as well as her ability to master being feminine and a bit edgy so perfectly.

The Best of 2014 Personal Style Edition | What I’ve Learned About Personal Style

Happy Monday, everyone! This weekend was such a great one. Not only was I able to spend some QT with hubby, but we also got a lot of things done around the house. It’s that time of the year when I start cleaning out closets, drawers and everything in between. So, we did a little bit of that on Saturday and Sunday. By next weekend, we should be done….I hope. ;-)

Today’s post is a recap of my favorite outfits from my Personal Style Monday posts. I started this linkup as a way to express my personal style and of course, I wanted to give you all a chance to do the same. I started out by having just 8 or so links for months and now I have 30+ linkups almost each week. I LOVE it and I thank you all for linking up and sharing my links each week. Check out some of my favorite Personal Style Moments of 2014, as well as some things I’ve learned about my personal style along the way.

Clearly I embraced my curves, wore a lot of dresses, and had no problem showing a little bit of skin earlier this year. I enjoyed experimenting with different looks, hairstyles and trends; all while staying true my personal style. I feel like my style has grown, yet has remained simple with a touch of uniqueness that only I can bring. I’ve “found myself” as far as personal style goes, and I’ve pushed my limits when it comes to what I will and won’t wear. Daring to bare my legs in certain outfits, like the black Jessica Simpson dress (above), was liberating and wearing shoes other than flats and sandals was huge for me.

I enjoyed wearing a bit more color this year and I wasn’t afraid to go bold with my outfits. I also learned the importance of knowing your body type. I know what looks good on me and what works for my body; 2 very important things to know when figuring out where to go with your personal style. Something else that’s important to learn while curating your personal style? Trying different things with makeup. For me this was tedious task, but I must admit that it was fun. Weather it was a lip color or a bit of mascara, I took myself to another level in terms of my day to day beauty routine. From makeup to skin care, I’ve re-learned the importance of taking care of my skin as well.

One of my favorite personal style posts this year involved statement jewelry. It was fun sharing my favorite pieces with you! Wearing statement pieces this year saved a lot of my outfits form being boring and blah. It was rather enjoyable styling different pieces and my collection has grown a lot since I published that post. I’d planned to do a separate post on how to shop for statement pieces on eBay, but I didn’t get around to it. No worries; it’s on the top of my to-blog-about list for the new year.

Of course I’ve stayed true to my love for thrifting. Showcasing different outfits with several of my thrifted purchases has been a personal style highlight. I’ve been able to influence others to try thrifting, as well as teach people how to successfully thrift for certain items. Thrifting is a huge part of my personal style and it will continue to be…forever. From thrifted accessories to sweater coats, I’ve had fun showing how to stay on trend without breaking the bank.

So tell me, what did you learn about your personal style this year? Are there any your favorite personal style look from 2014 above? Let me know!

Since this is the last of my Personal Style posts of 2014, I’ve decided to leave today’s linkup open until the last day of the month. Feel free to post as many looks as you’d like from now until then. Thank you all SO much for linking up with me and I look forward to seeing your outfits in the new year. Until tomorrow, be blessed and stay safe…XO!

Personal Style Monday | October Style Recap

Hello there! As I sit here typing away, I cannot believe I’m sharing my October Style Recap. Like, where did the month go?! Before you know it, we’ll be in full swing of the holiday season. Crazy, right? Well for now, let’s take at my October Style roundup. Style-wise, this month was a lot of fun for me. I was able to concentrate on a lot of work wear looks, as well as introduce a bit of color to my wardrobe. ;-)

I was also excited to incorporate a lot of thrifted items in my OOTD options. As a matter of fact, I counted (at least) 6 thrifted itmes worn during the month’s OOTD looks. Check it out:

1. Tan Tote Bag

2. Men’s Sweater

3. Black and Silver Cross

4. Orange and Purple Ombre Tunic/Dress

5. Green Oversized Sweater

6. Long Gold Chain Necklace

I normally highlight my thrifted goodies on Thursday’s, but I was so excited that I had to share them today. In looking at my October Style choices, you can see that thrifting items and adding them to your everyday work wardrobe is very simple. Thanks to thrifting, I was able to wear some fall trends, while still being budget conscious. #WINNING

Speaking of fall trends, take a look at my Personal Style favorite from last week. Ariel, the cute and fashion-forward blogger behind Auteur Ariel, linked up this OOTD below. I love how she (casually) styled her leather jacket and graphic t-shirt. The cat ears (headband) was a darling addition, don’t you think? I think Ariel nailed this look and although she’s right on trend with her look, it’s not too overdone. Bravo, Ariel! :-)

Personal Style Monday | Simple OOTD + an ASOS Giveaway

Happy Monday! How was your weekend? Mine was pretty low key. The highlight was spending  Saturday afternoon and evening with my little sis. She and I went to the movies to see The Maze Runner and to my surprise, I really enjoyed the movie! The story line was well put together and easy to follow, and the movie kept my attention the entire time.  I’m actually looking forward to the sequel! Lil sis ended up spending the night with us – hubby and I decided to give my parents a break for a night, lol. With my grandmother away on vacation, I’m sure they enjoyed the house to themselves.

Jumping into today’s OOTD, I want to share a quick look at one of my “go to” outfits when I’m trying to be simple and no-fuss. It’s no secret that I love a good black and white combo and of course, I love my black leggings/pants. So this look is very true to my personal style. I kept it simple with a lightweight graphic t-shirt and paired it with my black pants and comfy flats. Lately, I’ve been living in these flats. Not only are they comfy, but I love the fun print.

I’m all about simple this season. While I do plan to incorporate prints and bold statement pieces to my fall wardrobe, my goal is to keep my outfits as simple as possible. I really think the simple and minimal look will work for me this fall. I have a calendar full of events this season and my goal is to dress as comfortable, stylish and simple as possible. The less I have to worry about clothes the better, lol! Don’t get me wrong – I will still be fashionable with my OOTD choices. I just want to take a different approach when it comes to my personal style.

Personal Style Monday – More Summer Wardrobe Remixing

Happy Monday…and happy August! From the title, you can see today’s post is about (more) summer wardrobe remixing. I decided to give remixing another try with this colorful thrifted blouse/tunic. The 1st time I wore it was with shorts and sandals. Over the weekend, I decided to style it with a pair of denim and flats. Both looks, considered casual in my book, are extremely comfortable and perfect for summertime. I wore this outfit while running a few errands with the hubby, and actually ended up wearing it to work today. We’re able to dress down at the office during the summer, so this outfit seemed perfect.

casual summer OOTD

The whole idea of summer wardrobe remixing or wardrobe remixing in general isn’t a new one, but it’s something I’ve been adamant about this season. I really wanted to focus on wearing what was already in my closet. To my surprise, it’s been easier than I thought. I’ve been able to remix and rework a lot of my wardrobe items, which has saved a lot of money and time.

I have however purchased a few new accessories, which I think is smart when trying to remix certain wardrobe pieces. I mean think about it - you can wear the same black dress 3 or 4 times, but with new accessories, jewelry and shoes you have a totally different outfit. It’s all in the details. That’s what I did with this look; I changed up the jewelry, shoes (and pants) and bam! Another fashion forward and stylish OOTD! ;-)

Summer Wardrobe Remixing

Speaking of new accessories, check out my favorite link from last weeks linkup! LV of Food, Fashion & Flow is rocking her green Micheal Kors bag, gifted to her by her darling son for Mother’s Day. How adorable?! I love the bag and I’m sure LV plans to mix and match it with different looks year round. I’m also a huge fan of her animal print heels and crisp button down top; all of those items are perfect staples for a successful summer wardrobe remixing party! ;-)

So tell me, which look is your fave; the tunic with the shorts or with the denim pants? Let me know!

Now, it’s your turn to show off your personal style. Link up your recent OOTD pots(s) below - you just may be my favorite pick for next week. Just be sure to link your outfit back to this post. Also, visit the other bloggers who’ve linked up and say hey. Have a wonderful day…be blessed and be safe!
