I think it’s safe to say that it’s time to bring out the sweaters, blazers and jackets/coats! Here in Maryland, the temps have quickly dropped to the mid 40′s and 50′s. Because of this, I spent part of my weekend going through my fall jackets and coats. To my pleasant surprise, I had a pretty nice collection already. Since most of my fall and winter coats are still at my parents house, I kind of forgot what I had, lol! After going through everything, I figured I only needed 2 lightweight jackets to complete this seasons “outerwear collection”. Can you guess where I went to look for the last 2?? The thrift store, of course!
When shopping for fall outerwear, I hit thrift stores, Goodwills and vintage shops before heading to the mall or online. I like to rummage through both the women and men’s sections because I’m guaranteed to find the most unique jackets and coats. This weekend, I ended up purchasing 2 printed jackets and 1 bomber-like jacket, all for under $25. The jacket in this outfit was $4.99 and I actually spotted it as I was headed to the register. I stopped in my tracks when I saw the print and prayed it would fit. It most certainly did and it had been marked down from $10.99 – WINNING!
Jacket: Thrifted, $4.99 (Value Village)//Sweater: Thrifted//Necklace: Thrifted (2nd Avenue)//Denim: JcPenny Plus Size (Shop Similar Styles, HERE)//Flats: Monet (ON SALE at JcPenney, HERE)//Bag: Arcadia (Gifted)
I always tell people that if you’re a bit nervous about thrifting and don’t know where to start, try starting with accessories and outerwear. Not everyone wants to wear head to toe thrift and that’s fine. But if your looking for something different and something that’s eye-cathchingly unique (yea, I made that word up too, LOL) consider thrifting it. I saw so many jackets and coats at Value Village this weekend that I started to buy a few for family and friends as Christmas gifts. Because I wanted to stick to my budget, I didn’t. But When I do begin my Christmas shopping, I’ll be going back. There’s just something about a great vintage find that makes me happy, lol!
So if you’re in the process of shopping for fall/winter, don’t hesitate to check the thrift stores 1st for your outerwear. Also, read this to see what other items I think are perfect to find at thrift and vintage stores this season. If you find something or have already found something, let me know! Thanks for stopping by and enjoy the rest of your day…be blessed!
