Thrifty Thursday – The Newest Addition to My Thrifted Summer Wardrobe

Today’s outfit includes the newest addition to my thrifted summer wardrobe; a $3 orange ruffled dress. As I’m typing this post, I have to chuckle. Normally I don’t purchase dresses (this style) that are too big for me. However when I saw this orange dress hanging on the rack at the Columbia (Maryland) Goodwill, that thought flew out of the window! I was determined that no matter what the size, I was going to purchase and wear this orange ruffle dress. I thought to myself, “orange is my favorite color, I don’t wear the color as often as I’d like, and it’s cute – who cares if it’s too big? I’ll make it work!” Well, I like to think that regardless of the dress size, I made it work for me. :-D

Thrifted Summer Wardrobe Item

As I previously stated, I don’t normally do this but I just had to add this orange beauty to my thrifted summer wardrobe! I plan to get it tailored for a better fit next week; the bust line needs to be lifted/changed to fit me a little better. Right now it’s too droopy. Nonetheless, I had to wear it once just to get a feel for it. ;-) It’s stretchy, soft and so comfortable. Can you say perfection? I also love the ruffled details because it adds a soft feminine touch to the dress.

This outfit is the perfect example of how to mix a thrift with non thrift. The “key player” of the outfit is the thrifted $3 dress. The nude pumps, purse and accessories (minus the watch) were purchased elsewhere and serve as great additions to this stylish look. I get a thrill when I mix thrift and non thrift, so this outfit is definitely one I had fun with.  A look like this is perfect for the following:

1. The workplace

2. After work dinner & drinks

3. Date night

4. A semi-dressy event during the summer

So tell me, what do you think of my latest thrifted summer wardrobe addition? Have you ever LOVED an item so much and purchased it anyway…even though it was too big? Let me know!

As always, thanks for reading. If you haven’t done so, be sure to head over and add your recent OOTD to my Personal Style Linkup; there’s still time! Also, be sure to catch my latest #summerwithnic blogger feature. :-) Until next time, be blessed and stay safe…XO!

You are wearing one of my fav colors, and it looks GREAT on you! You mention something about tailoring and I am always a little hesitant to thrift things that will need tailoring due to the price I pay for it and the price the tailor is going to ask. I would like to know if you do your own tailoring or if you have a budget that you will put towards tailoring your pieces.

Aw, thanks Ayana! I would love to learn how to sew and take in so I can do my own alterations. Luckily, my neighbor does most of the alterations for me (and my husband), or I take the items to my local dry cleaners. If I pay a small amount for a great piece, I don’t mind paying more to tailor/or fix it to make it fit.

;-) I knew you’d be able to see the “potential”. I wish I had your skills bc I’d do it myself, lol. Thanks for stopping by, Mo! :-)

Beautiful color on you! Love the ruffle detail and the fact that you paired this bold color with a neutral pump. Very pretty look!

I am so guilty of thrifting things that don’t fit as well as they should because I could not help falling in love!
I’m sure with $10 of tailoring you will have an amazing $13 dress!
