Personal Style | Styling a Thrifted Blouse and Denim

September 21, 2016 by Whitney 14 Comments

When’s the last time you went thrifting? If I’m being honest, I haven’t (really) been thrifting in months. I know… Crazy, right? Well, that changed a few days ago. I had to urge to add some new pieces to my wardrobe for the fall, so I figured a quick thrift store trip wouldn’t hurt. 7 items and a few dollars later, I walked out with this sheer animal print thrifted blouse and a few other items. Mission accomplished!

Although this thrifted blouse is sheer, it’s still great for fall styling. It’s the perfect layering piece, which is why I decided to layer it over a black bodysuit. I’m all about comfort and style whenever I’m figuring out what to wear, but especially when it comes to work-wear. I’m often running errands or out and about during the day so I like to look presentable and chic, without compromising my comfort.

You can still wear your sheer pieces in the fall. They’re great layering pieces! #wnjstyle

When styling a piece like this thrifted blouse, it’s important to remember to wear something fitted at the bottom. Because the blouse is flowy and over-sized, a fitted or slim pair of pants/denim helps balance out the look. Staying in the neutral family, I topped off the outfit with a pair of nude flats and one of my favorite purses. The subtle gold tones in the purse bring out my gold necklace and studs.

Personal Style | Minimal Wardrobe Update + (More) Minimal Wardrobe Options

May 11, 2016 by Whitney 25 Comments

As I continue building my minimal wardrobe, I’m very pleased with my progress. I’ve donated and sold several items that no longer serve a purpose and will continue to do so throughout this process. I’ve created a list of specific items to add to my wardrobe and I’ve started buying only those items. Talk about self-control! I’ve also started wearing what’s left in my closet more often, which helps create even more minimal wardrobe options. Styling the pieces differently has allowed me to become more creative with accessories, shoes, and jewelry.

Outfit - Minimal Wardrobe Options

It’s no secret that I’m a fan of wearing black, gray and other neutrals. Bright colors and prints also have a place in my wardrobe; however, I stick with a neutral color palette for most of my work outfits. The gray tunic and black pants, worn in the outfit above, are two of my favorite items to style. Each piece can easily serve as a base for several outfits.

Remember the ‘quality over quantity’ rule when purchasing items for your wardrobe. #wnjstyle

As I search the web for wardrobe additions, of course, I’ve found several options from Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack. Both stores carry multiple brands that fit several plus size body types. They also sell quality clothing. The price doesn’t always dictate the quality of an item, but when shopping at these stores that’s sometimes the case. While rebuilding and adding to my minimal wardrobe, I’m all about quality over quantity. Therefore, I’m willing to spend a little extra to make sure I stick to that rule.

So tell me, what do you think about my latest minimal outfit? Are you a fan of the 3 minimal wardrobe options from Nordstrom? Let me know!

Fall Style Must Haves | Melissa McCarthy Seven7 at Nordstrom

August 25, 2015 by Whitney 4 Comments

When I first heard Melissa McCarthy was coming out with a clothing line for plus size women, I was ecstatic! I’ve been a huge fan since she played the high-strung and lovable Sookie on Gilmore Girls. Since then I’ve watched her evolve into an A-List actress. As her talent evolved, so did her style. She knows what styles fit her body and she knows what works well on her body type. Someone on my Twitter feed said it perfectly – “…her line is perfectly designed for curvy girls.“ Here’s a look at a few of my favorite items from the new Melissa McCarthy Seven7 line, available at Nordstrom (and HSN).

From tops, kimonos, denim and skirts, this collection is perfect for a those wanting to achieve a chic, functional and stylish wardrobe during the upcoming fall season. The clothing may be priced higher than you’re up for paying, but I know for a fact that Seven7 is a phenomenal high-quality brand. For a few extra coins I don’t mind because I know the garments will last. Also the items available are great transitional wardrobe pieces, meaning you can wear the item more than once. You know how I feel about stretching and expanding your closet – #WINNING!

The @melissamccarthy line at @nordstrom has transitional and quality wardrobe items! #wnjstyle
