If you subscribe to my newsletter you probably remember me saying that this summer was “a wild one”. I can honestly say that I’ve gone through just about every emotion there is over the past 3 months. Despite the wild and craziness of the season, my saving grace has been my evening and morning routines. Having set routines makes navigating through my days so much easier. Therefore, I want to share a few of my “night before” tips with you. Here are 5 things to do at night to prepare for the next day!

1. Clean up your surroundings. | I always tidy up before heading to bed. When everything is in order and in place, I can breathe easier. Plus it helps to know where things are when you’re trying to head out the door in the morning. Spending 5-10 minutes in the morning frantically looking for your car keys or phone, when you’re probably already running late, is no fun – trust me.
2. Make a list. | When I jot down a few reminders for the next day I feel like I’m already 5 steps ahead. It doesn’t have to be anything elaborate; a short list of 3 or 4 reminders will do. I often list 3 people I need to email/or call the next day on a post-it and stick it on my computer screen.
3. Pick out your clothes. | This is something I’ve been doing since I was in grade school. My husband does the same thing. Hang your next day outfit in the front of your closet, or even on the outside of your closet door. Place your shoes, jewelry and any other accessory you’ll need on the dresser or somewhere visible. This simple task will save you so much time in the mornings.

4. Set your alarm. | Thanks to the iPhone iOS 10 upgrade, the ‘Bedtime’ feature reminds me when I need to go to bed in order to get at least 6-7 hours of sleep. Since I’m working on consistently going to bed and waking up at a certain time during the week, this feature is the perfect way to keep me on track.
5. Unplug. | After you’ve set your alarm, put your phone on silent and place it face down on your dresser. Also, turn off the TV or laptop. The worst thing you can do is sleep with those on. The bright light from both is distracting and makes it harder for you to get a good night’s sleep.
So tell me, what things do you do at night to prepare for the next day? Anything I mentioned above? Let me know!
I hope you find these tips helpful. Doing these 5 simple things has really helped me prepare for a productive “next day”. I plan to share my morning and evening routines with you in the near future, but in the meantime feel free to follow me on Snapchat. I often share snippets of my routines over there. Until next time, be blessed and stay safe…XO!

These are all great tips, Whitney. I have to admit I’ve begun integrating these into my bedtime routine. One that has really helped is getting my clothes ready for the next day. As a blogger I *ahem* always feel I have nothing to wear. This is far from the truth because my closet is overflowing…lol. One thing I need to work on is powering off my phone. I’m so guilty of scrolling my blog roll, liking posts on facebook, and tapping those hearts on instagram into the wee hours of the morning. Thanks for sharing!

LOL! I feel like I have nothing to wear far to often too, so I get it. Hahahaha! Thanks so much for reading and commenting. XO!

It has saved me so much time. Even if I don’t do the other steps, I make sure I pick out an outfit bc I know how crazy and all over the place I can get in the a.m. LOL!

These are all great tips! I also try to pick up the night before and that includes doing my dishes. I don’t have that many dirty dishes each day so it literally only takes me like 5 minutes to wash them all, and it makes the next day easier!
I never have been able to pick out my clothes the night before, tho. I know a LOT of people do this and love it, but I have to see what kind of mood I am going to be in that particular day first! 🙂 Kind of silly, I know!
Thanks for linking up at the Weekend Wind-Down party!

Thank YOU for reading! And picking gout you outfit based on your mood is not silly at all. I definitely understand! I do that most weekends. 🙂

Do you really get up at 5:00 a.m.?! Yikes! I for sure pick out my clothes at night. In fact I mentally pick them out on my ride home from work, otherwise I’d never make it to the office.

LOL, I just stared waking up at that time this summer. It’s not always easy and I don’t do it every single day, but most days when 5 a.m. comes I’m up. It’s been tough, LOL, but it’s helped me become a lot more productive. And yea, I think about my outfit in my head a lot too. LOL! Thought I was the only one who did that…hahaha!

Preparing for the upcoming day, the night before, has been a saving grace for my nerves. Scrambling to do tasks in the morning was just unnecessary stress.
Whitney says
I so agree! Scrambling is no fun in the a.m. Thanks for reading!

Sorry to hear your summer was a little to crazy. I hope fall will bring some relaxing days your ways.
Great tips! I’m always a fan of sticking to a typical routine. It seems that if I do I’m way more relaxed throughout the day
Happy Friday!

Thanks, Carly. I’m happy to say that things are looking up. 🙂 And I agree; a routine makes my days much more relaxed ad less stressful. Thanks for stopping by!

Yesterday, I shut down all of my electronic devices after 8pm. It wasn’t as difficult as I thought it would’ve been.

Really great tips… this is a sure way to make life much easier! I’ve adapted to a few of them even though my morning routine sorta switches it just all depends on my vibration but I definitely PREPARE no matter which way I’ll end up… preparation is key! I have to have my moments of solitude so unplugging is a must speaking of unplugging I should be doing that now but some nights it takes me longer than others… I have to train my brain and thought pattern to refocus every now and then.
Thanks for sharing
