Lifestyle | How to Make Things Happen in Business, in Relationships & in Life in General

July 17, 2018 by Whitney 8 Comments

The older I get the more I realize that people are scared to make things happen. Whether it’s a business decision or a romantic one many people are paralyzed by either the fear of failure or the fear of success. I have been guilty of being fearful of both.

Some people want it to happen, some wish it would happen, others make it happen. ~ Michael Jordan

However, I’ve learned that in order to be successful in life I can’t afford to be afraid of the “what if’s.” I also can’t talk about making things happen more than actually putting in the work to make them happen. Read ahead for 6 things to keep in mind while making things happen in your business, relationships, and life in general.

How to Make Things Happen

1. Commit

  • First things first. In order for a business, a relationship or a marriage to succeed you have to be all in. Half committing won’t cut it. Period. Deciding to commit is both the hardest and most important part when it comes to making things happen.
Related: How to Choose a Word of the Year

2. Don’t Over Share

  • Whether it’s a new business idea or a relationship/or marriage, you don’t need to share everything with everybody.  My advice is to find three people to share those intimate and specific details with. These people should be trustworthy, honest, and loyal. If you’re in a relationship or married, the first person in this trifecta should be easy. Your partner. When it comes to the other two, pray for discernment while seeking them out, then go with your gut.

3. Track Your Progress

  • Create a Vision Board for your business, relationship/or marriage. Place the board somewhere you can see it, and keep track of your progress and accomplishments. For example, say you have images on your board that represent purchasing office space, traveling to Europe or owning a home. Once you’ve accomplished that goal remove those images, and store them in a place you can refer back to. Eventually, you will have an empty board. An empty Vision Board equals accomplished goals.

4. Don’t be Too Hard on yourself

  • You will make mistakes. A business deal will fall through. An idea won’t work. Your relationship will hit a rough patch. You will go through difficult seasons in your marriage. It’s ok. Nothing and no one is perfect. Give yourself some grace. You’ve already made the decision to commit, so dig in your heals and push through.

5. Celebrate Your Success

  • Don’t be afraid to celebrate the good things that happen to you. The celebrations don’t have to be elaborate but then again, they can be. Afterall, you deserve it!

The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there is in life to celebrate. ~ Oprah Winfrey

Travel | Our Trip to Los Angeles

June 4, 2018 by Whitney 2 Comments

Darrius and I celebrated our 5th year wedding anniversary in Los Angeles, California. Although we’ve both been to California before, we’ve never been as a couple. So, we decided to head to the West Coast for 6 days. While there, we explored the city, visited family, and most importantly, enjoyed one another’s company. The trip was absolutely wonderful, and we’ve decided to make visiting California a once a year trip.

See Also: Our Trip to Punta Cana

I was excited to take A LOT of pictures, and I was also looking forward to filming my first vlog in LA. I guess God had other plans because right after we went through security at the airport, I realized that I forgot the camera. I was upset for about 20 minutes, then I got over it. I took it as a sign that I needed to be fully present during our trip. I didn’t need to worry about shooting several outfit pictures, nor did I need to stress about filming the “perfect” vlog. Whatever I needed to capture would be done using my iPhone 8 plus. That said, enjoy my LA vlog (shot using my iPhone), as well as a few of my favorite (iPhone) pics from the trip!

Music | 5 Underrated Female Albums & EP’s

May 17, 2018 by Whitney 4 Comments

I can’t live without is music. Take away television, social media, even books (just not the Bible). As long as I have access to music, I’m good. Thanks to my Mom, ever since I was younger, music has been a huge part of my life. In middle school, I would rush home to watch 106 & Park, TRL, and The Box Music Television. I would get in so much trouble ordering music videos on The Box. I also used to save up my ALL of my allowance just to purchase CDs and cassette tapes from Sam Goody. Talk about the good ol’ days.

See Also: 23 Songs You Need on Your Workout Playlist

Fast forward many years, and my love for music still remains. While I can listen to just about any genre, my preferred genres are R&B, Smooth Jazz, and NeoSoul. These days I don’t listen to the radio much, but I do get a healthy dose of my favorite genres thanks to Spotify and Apple Music. I’ve been listening to a lot of female artists more and more, and there are 5 albums and EP’s that I have on heavy rotation. I believe these are currently some of the most underrated female albums & EP’s. I can easily listen to each album or EP straight through, no skips. Granted some of their singles can (finally) be heard on the radio, but these artists deserve more play than just a 1 or 2 of their singles. Their work deserves to be celebrated and recognized.

Underrated Female Albums & EP's

1. (2014) VII (Delux) – Teyana Taylor

  • The album itself is very grown and sexy and I’m here for it! Teyana’s velvety soft and sultry voice has incredible range. The beats on this album are SICK, she delivers each song beautifully, and they each tell a story.

2. (2016) Change – Ella Mai

  • I was first introduced to this British singer about a year ago, thanks to Sirius XM Radio. Signed to DJ Mustard’s label, Ella Mai is another songstress who knows how to tell a story with her simple and memorable lyrics. Her sound is reminiscent of the classic 90’s R&B days. So, of course, I’m a fan!

3. (2016) Lauren – Keke Palmer

  • I’ve always been a fan of Keke, but when she dropped this EP I saw her in a different light. Gone are the Akeelah and the Bee days! Keke is all grown up, and she proves this to be true with each song. The songs are all different and like a true artist, Keke knows how to paint a picture through her vulnerable, fearless, and sometimes playful, lyrics. I also thoroughly enjoyed the visual EP, Lauren.

4. (2017) H.E.R. – H.E.R. Vol. 2– The B Side

  •  A little sultry, a little neo-soul, this album, from start to finish, is superb! This singer-songwriter delivers her soft and breathy lyrics effortlessly. It’s very easy to get lost in her soothing voice.

5. (2018) Fate – Tammy Rivera

  • Tammy teamed up with Executive Producer Rico Love to create this transparent and very well-produced EP. You can hear every emotion in Tammy’s voice, and with each song comes a catchy hook. Her lyrics are honest and relatable, and while the beats are mostly slow to mid-tempo, they will definitely have you nodding your head back and forth.

Listen to some of these albums and EP’s, plus a few other underrated female artists below.

So tell me, what do you think about these albums and EP’s? Which female artists do you think are underrated? Let me know!

Thanks, as always, for reading and commenting and until next time, be blessed and stay safe.

Auto Review | 2018 Mazda3 Grand Touring

April 18, 2018 by Whitney 8 Comments

I drive and review a lot of cars. Some I like, some not so much. However, when I’m able to test drive a Mazda I know I won’t be disappointed. So, when this 2018 Mazda3 Grand Touring pulled up outside my house I was thrilled! At first glance, I noticed this “Snowflake White Pearl” 4-door vehicle was super sporty. The lines and curves also made the car extremely chic, and the smooth, buttery parchment interior was the cherry on top!

During the week, I drove the 2018 Mazda3 back and forth from Columbia to Baltimore, twice. I also drove my regular routes around my neighborhood. On the highway, I gave it a little gas and quickly found out this car gets OUT! Despite the elevated speed, I still felt in control of the car. Major plus! With all the highway driving, the blind-spot monitoring feature came in very handy.

Navigating my way in and around parking lots was a breeze. Because the body of the car is on the smaller side, I was able to zip in and out of parking spaces effortlessly. Personal Style | Casual Spring Outfit + Spring Cleaning Tips

April 3, 2018 by Whitney 9 Comments

Spring 2018 is clearly taking it’s sweet time to make it’s way to the East Coast. I can deal with April showers, but April snowstorms and bone-chilling temperatures in the evenings? I’ll pass. Thankfully we’ve been able to enjoy a few spring-like days over the past few weeks, but I’m definitely yearning for consistent spring weather. In the meantime, I’m still pairing some of my winter items with a few spring accessories.

See Also: 3 Winter Accessories to Keep in Your Closet this Spring

Today’s casual outfit is a prime example of styling both winter and spring items. The mules and the ankle length ripped jeans were on reserve for springtime, and the sweater and oversized scarf are leftovers from the winter. Adding my black turban was chich choice, although, in reality, it’s covering my freshly washed and blown out hair which is patiently waiting to be braided or cornrowed.

While I wait for Spring to arrive, and for my hair to be braided, I’ve still managed to be productive. I decided that despite the confused weather, Spring Cleaning must still be done. We often think about cleaning our homes during the spring, but what about our email inboxes, social media accounts, and even our minds and bodies? Don’t they deserve to be refreshed as well? Read ahead to find out 3 quick and easy tips to help you “Spring Clean” more than just the rooms in your house.

  1. Clear Your Inbox
    • Set aside 30-45 minutes to go through your email inbox. Reply to, archive or trash any messages that have been sitting in your inbox for the last 30 days. Also, go through and unsubscribe from any retailer or mailing list that no longer interests you. Hint: If you haven’t shopped at the store in the last 9-12 months, you don’t need to be on their mailing list. Period.
  2. Get Moving
    • Dust off your walking shoes, yoga mats, and sports bras. It’s time to GET MOVING! Spring is the perfect time to start a workout/healthy living routine. Find a local park and start walking at least twice a week for 20-30 minutes. Don’t feel like walking? Download the Nike+ Training App and try a few 15-minute workout routines. Start by doing this 2 times a week, right in the comfort of your own home. It doesn’t have to be drastic; just find a way to move your body.
  3. Delete, Unfollow & Unfriend
    • Clean up those friend lists. We all have those “friends” on our social media feeds who always post something inappropriate, annoying or downright ignorant. We roll our eyes, complain and keep scrolling to the next status. No more! It’s time to go through your friend list on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Unfollow or delete where you see fit.

Lifestyle | 40 Everyday Women Who are Fearlessly Impacting the World

March 8, 2018 by Whitney 8 Comments

I’ve been blessed to be surrounded by remarkable women my entire life. I have seen firsthand what it means to be a phenomenal woman. My mother and grandmother are my sources of inspiration. They’re women of faith and distinction, but above all, they’re women of purpose. Watching them throughout the years has molded me into the woman I am today. It’s because of their example, I decided to create Fearless Woman I Am 3 years ago. They taught me how to celebrate, uplift and inspire other women. So today, International Women’s Day 2018, I want to celebrate 40 everyday women who are fearlessly impacting the world.

“Women are the largest untapped reservoir of talent in the world.” ~ Hillary Clinton

These 40 women are game changes. They are using their God-given talents to impact the world in a positive way, and they deserve to be acknowledged. Some of these women have inspired me to try new things when it comes to fashion and style, while others have given me the best skincare advice to date! There are some women listed who have motivated me to start living a healthier and cleaner lifestyle, and others who have encouraged me to become a more intentional entrepreneur and a more strategic prayer warrior. Some of these women I’ve had the pleasure of meeting, and some I feel like I know because we engage weekly, via social media. I am also blessed to call a few of these women “my friend”, while others I have yet to meet. All in all, these women have impacted my life greatly and I’m thrilled to shine a spotlight on each of them today.

Faith | 5 YouVersion Bible Plans Every Woman Needs to Read

March 6, 2018 by Whitney Leave a Comment

One of my favorite things to do every morning is to read one of my daily Bible Plans on the YouVersion Bible App. As of January 2017, this became part of my morning routine. I love spending time with God and reading His word, especially in the morning. Doing this sets a positive tone for my day and allows me to feed my soul something positive and uplifting.

Related: 10 Books to Grow Your Faith & Business in 2018

My goal this year is to complete at least 30 Bible Plans on the app, and I’m pleased to say that I’m well on my way to reaching my goal. Below are 5 of my favorite YouVersion Bible Plans I think every woman needs to read. I’m sure you’ll find something that catches your eye or speaks to your soul.

YouVersion Bible Plans

1. Fashioned for His Purpose

  • If you have a career in the arts (ie. fashion, beauty, etc.) this plan is perfect for you! Throughout this 7-day plan, written by fellow creative Dionne Dean, you’ll learn God’s heart for the creative arts and the people He has anointed to display His beauty on earth. The way Dionne crafted and laid out this plan is pure genius. It was easy to digest, enjoyable and spirit-filled.

3. The Daniel 14-Day Plan

  • Every once in a while I go on a fast and the fast can last anywhere from 3-21 days. I choose not to let others know when I’m fasting, with the exception of my husband (and my immediate family if necessary). However, I do need a little boost from time to time during this process. 3-21 days of a fast is not easy, no matter how what anyone says! It does become more bearable as each day passes, but nevertheless, this plan is the perfect 2-week boost! If you’ve never tried a fast, this plan gives much insight into the process itself, as well as scriptures and devotions to guide you through.

2. Top Verses to Memorize

  • I just finished this plan yesterday and to be honest, when I first started I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to keep up for 365 days. Despite my doubts, I got it done and learned so much along the way! This plan helped me identify some of my (now) favorite verses and gave me the urge to dig even deeper into the scriptures. This plan also inspired me to share a scripture each morning on Twitter.

4. Weight Loss, God’s Way

  • A few months into my healthy lifestyle journey, I started this plan. I felt like I needed some spiritual encouragement to keep going, so I searched the Bible App for a plan that would help me along my journey. Reading this plan definitely gave me the spiritual guidance I needed to stay on track. As I mentioned on Instagram, connecting food and fitness to my faith really helps keep me focused on my health & wellness goals (most days).

5. Women on a Mission

  • Thanks to my mother, I completed this plan about a year ago and I absolutely LOVED it. This 3-day plan is perfect for all women, period. The daily devotionals show you what it takes to be a woman filled with strength and dignity, and explains what a modern day Proverbs 31 Woman looks like. It’s short, sweet and to the point, and I’m sure you will thoroughly enjoy it.
