#WNJDrives | 2017 Hyundai Elantra Eco

September 27, 2016 by Whitney 2 Comments

A few months back I test drove the 2017 Hyundai Elantra Eco for a week. When the cute and compact car pulled up I was all smiles. From its red exterior to the sleek body, I was ready to hop in and start driving! Once inside I was equally impressed with the cream interior, huge touchscreen and spacious backseat.

During my time with the car I enjoyed being able listen to my morning podcasts on the way to work, as well as my many iTunes playlists. Like the other cars I’ve recently tested, the Hyundai Elantra Eco was equipped with Apple CarPlay. I love this feature and I’m glad to see that it’s becoming the norm for so many of the newer car models. Receiving and sending messages while driving was extremely safe and hassle free, thanks to Apply CarPlay. Check out some of the other feature below!

– Leather Steering Wheel with Audio & Cruise Control

– Front, Front Side Impact & Side Curtain Airbags

– Bluetooth Hands-free Phone System

– Touchscreen Display Audio System

– Android Auto & Apple CarPlay

– Hands-free Smart Trunk

– Blind Spot Detection

– Heated Front Seats

– Rear-view Camera

– SiriusXM Radio

I also made a Target run while test driving the car. I was able to pack in quite a bit, plus a few extra goodies from the grocery store, thanks to the spacious trunk! The rear-view camera came in handy as well while maneuvering in and out of the parking lot(s). The Hyundai Elantra Eco also provided plenty of space to hold drinks, as well as your cellphone while driving. I don’t like holding my phone in my lap while driving or having to put it in the passengers seat next to me. Having a specific area to place my phone and drinks was very convenient.

Personal Style | Styling a Thrifted Blouse and Denim

September 21, 2016 by Whitney 14 Comments

When’s the last time you went thrifting? If I’m being honest, I haven’t (really) been thrifting in months. I know… Crazy, right? Well, that changed a few days ago. I had to urge to add some new pieces to my wardrobe for the fall, so I figured a quick thrift store trip wouldn’t hurt. 7 items and a few dollars later, I walked out with this sheer animal print thrifted blouse and a few other items. Mission accomplished!

Although this thrifted blouse is sheer, it’s still great for fall styling. It’s the perfect layering piece, which is why I decided to layer it over a black bodysuit. I’m all about comfort and style whenever I’m figuring out what to wear, but especially when it comes to work-wear. I’m often running errands or out and about during the day so I like to look presentable and chic, without compromising my comfort.

You can still wear your sheer pieces in the fall. They’re great layering pieces! #wnjstyle

When styling a piece like this thrifted blouse, it’s important to remember to wear something fitted at the bottom. Because the blouse is flowy and over-sized, a fitted or slim pair of pants/denim helps balance out the look. Staying in the neutral family, I topped off the outfit with a pair of nude flats and one of my favorite purses. The subtle gold tones in the purse bring out my gold necklace and studs.

Personal Style | Minimal Styling with an Asos Kimono

September 14, 2016 by Whitney 12 Comments

When it comes to personal style, I’m all about no-fuss, yet chic, outfits. Throwing my braids in a bun, wearing a pair of leggings, a kimono and a pair of big hoops is “my thing”. It’s the kind of look that’s perfect for someone trying to achieve a minimal sense of style. You maybe looking at this outfit and thinking, “is she wearing another kimono?!”  I’m guilty. But this time it’s a kimono from the men’s section. That counts for something, right?

So, how did I end up shopping in the men’s section? After seeing fellow Lifestyle Blogger Sam – AKA my kindred spirit – style a black and white men’s kimono, I had to know where I could find it! I frantically searched the ASOS website, found it in the men’s section, yet fell in love with the simplicity and versatility of the kimono worn in this post. I knew that I’d get more wear out of a solid kimono, so I opted to purchase this one instead.

Ladies, don’t be afraid to shop in the men’s section for certain wardrobe items! #wnjstyle

The material of the kimono is heavy enough to be worn throughout the fall and versatile enough to be styled multiple times. It can easily be styled over a casual dress, a tank top, or a light weight t-shirt as shown in this look. This minimal style purchase is certainly one I do not regret.

Personal Style | Wearing Denim and a Floral Blouse

September 7, 2016 by Whitney 22 Comments

HELLO THERE! I’m back with a brand new outfit AND a brand new attitude! I’ll get into my new attitude in another post, but for now let’s get into how I styled a pair denim and a floral blouse. Cute, right?! I’ve been wearing flowy tops all summer. No surprise there, I know. I’ve also been wearing this pair of ankle length denim over and over again. For a while I wasn’t able to comfortably fit into them, but since I’ve been walking away the pounds this summer these pants are back to fitting like a glove!

I purchased this Sejour blouse while shopping at Nordstrom Rack in Boca Raton, Florida. My family and I were there for a week in July while my sister competed in a pageant. I figured during my downtime I’d do a little shopping. Nordstrom Rack was a short Uber ride from the hotel, so of course I had to visit. While I wasn’t too pleased with their plus size section, I did find this blouse, a really cute pair of shoes and a few beauty items.

The perfect chic and stylish outfit for the fall! #wnjstyle

This blouse is perfect for year-round styling. The material is light, the pattern is fun, and the style is timeless. Although the pattern colorful, it’s still the perfect addition to my minimal wardrobe. Yes, I’m still on the minimal style wave. No worries; a minimal style update coming soon!

Lifestyle | 7 Life Lessons You Learn in Your 20s

August 10, 2016 by Whitney 14 Comments

As I get ready to enter into a new decade, I keep thinking about the many lessons I’ve learned throughout my 20s. If I shared all of those lessons, we’d be here until my next birthday. So I’ve decided to share just a few. Read ahead to find out 7 life lessons you learn in your 20s.

Related: 10 Things I Wish I Knew 10 Years Ago

Life Lessons You Learn in Your 20s

1. Know your worth. | If there’s one thing I’ve learned in my 20s it’s to know your worth. It’s imperative to understand that wanting the best for yourself, and expecting nothing less, is exactly what you deserve. Know your worth, know your value and never settle.

2. Nobody really knows what they’re doing. | Truth be told, we’re all just winging it. Simply put, there is no “right way” to go through life. I’ve learned to focus on being the best version of myself, while being kind to others along the way, and leaving the rest up to God.

3. This world owes you nothing. | I’m not a fan of people who feel entitled. The world owes you nothing and we should not live life, expecting the world to give us what we think we deserve. I’ve learned that you have to work, sometimes harder than others, to get what you want/deserve. You get out  of life what you put into it. Period.

* SPOILER ALERT * Even if you work your hardest, you still may not get what you want or deserve. Unfortunately, that’s life.

4.  The only thing constant is change. | Things, people, and situations change. Throughout my 20s, I’ve had to deal with so many changes. Prayerfully I’ve been able to move forward, but it’s been unbelievably difficult to adjust to certain changes. Your 20s are the perfect time to learn how to become more flexible and open to change.

5. There will always be someone better than you. | In your 20s it’s easy to feel irreplaceable and invincible. Trust me, I’ve been there. But never think you can’t be replaced because you can be. You’re not always going to be everyone’s cup of tea and as they say, there’s always going to be  someone better, stronger, or prettier than you. This is why knowing your worth is extremely important. As long as you’re the best version of yourself and you give it everything you’ve got (at all times) you’ll come out of the top every time.

6. You can’t please everyone. | I’ve learned this lesson quite a few times in my 20s. While I respect the opinions of my loved ones, at the end of the day I have to make the best decision(s) for myself. It’s really that simple.

7. Some things should be kept private. | As much as I LOVE sharing my life on social media, I’ve realized that some moments are not meant for the world to see. I’ve learned that although I may be OK with sharing certain things, the other people involved may not want that moment shared. Also, sharing too much with the public leaves room for judgement, speculation and questions. Who wants to deal with any of that? I sure don’t. Trust me, keeping some things to yourself is definitely a good thing.

So tell me, what do you think about my lessons? What are some life lessons you’ve learned in your 20s? Let me know!

Thanks for reading and be sure to share some of the lessons you’ve learned in your 20s below. I can’t wait to read them! Until next time, be blessed and stay safe…XO!

#WNJDrives | 2017 Kia Sportage SX Review

July 29, 2016 by Whitney 3 Comments

All summer long I’ve been test driving some pretty awesome cars! My latest test drive was with the 2017 Kia Sportage SX. I feel like each time I drive a Kia I want one even more! This time was no different; I truly enjoyed my week with the this midsize beauty. I mean just by looking at this car I fell in love! Body-wise it’s incredibly sleek and the color is perfection!

2017 Kia Sportage

The Sportage SX dives very well and has a slight luxurious feel once inside. For a while, I forgot I was driving a Kia! For the most part just my husband and I rode in the car, but there was room in the backseat for 3 more passengers. The trunk also has plenty of room for storage, which came in handy on grocery shopping day. I also enjoyed riding with the the panoramic sunroof open. Check out some more features:

– Lane Departure Warning & Automated Emergency Braking

– Dual Front Seat-Mounted Side Airbags

– Heated & Cooled Leather Front Seats

– Handsfree/Bluetooth Capability

– Audio Controls on Steering Wheel

– Touchscreen Display Screen

– Daytime Running Lights

– Blind Spot Detection

– Panoramic Sunroof

– Rearview Camera

* See Also: 2016 Kia Optima Review

I must say that I appreciated the Blind Spot Detection feature. Granted I’m a safe driver, but it’s quite the necessary feature for someone like me who drives on the highway quite often. Because of the size, I can see the 2017 Kia Sportage SX being purchased and driven as a family car. I can definitely see this being one of the cars on our list when hubs and I have a baby.

Kia Sportage SX 2017

2017 Kia Sportage SX

Even if you don’t have children the Sportage SX is a great choice for those who don’t want a big truck, but crave the space and feel of an SUV. Like an SUV, this car is sturdy, safe and spacious. Unlike (some) SUV’s, this car is much easier to maneuver in and out of parking spaces. For me, that was a definite plus!

So tell me, what do you think about the 2017 Kia Sportage SX? Let me know!

As always, thanks so much for reading and commenting. Until next week, be blessed and stay safe…XO!
